I took my photo after my brother and I had taken a wrong turn while trying to get to a camp site. We had gone 20km (~12.5 miles) in the wrong direction.

"Looks like we needed to take a left instead of a right at that last fork in the road"
"Oh no... more trails and more mud? Whatever shall we do..." ;)

Thanks brother. Had to pick up a bunch of pine straw earlier and rolled up the flaps to use the blower to clean the bed. Thinking about getting a local auto upholstery guy to fab a bikini style top just for kicks. Or when I don’t need the coverage.

i have been running around with no hood protector for over a month now, i have always had one on for the past 22.5 years until it got busted in pieces and put an aftermarket one on that just did not fit kosher
this is the first time i have seen this unusual spray pattern on the hood,
picked it up on I-76 outside of Denver, lots of puddles, i was getting passed by the big trucks just hosing me down
its all washed up and clean now that i got back to homebase

highway spray pattern no hood protector.jpg

I sorta like this new look (no hood protector) but i know its gonna cost me big coin to have the hood repaired occasionally from rock and gravel chips that are bound to happen
can only go so far with touchup paint stick

Oh my friend, what about wrapping the hood? You can still make it look the same, keep original paint in tact and have it protected a bit better without the hood protector. I bought quite a bit of vinyl from Amazon so I can wrap my roof, $99 for a 50 square foot roll. (Looks like price went up a few bucks). This is matte black though and I don't know about paint matching though. But you could possibly find it in clear.

i did look into having a clear film put on, but they want $400
it would go up 1 or 2 feet (i don't remember right offhand) from the edge they told me so IDK

DIY!! It's like putting on a huge sticker and rubbing out bubbles. Grab a friend and some beers and get er done in an hour or so (maybe more, I haven't done it yet).

I suggest searching the interwebz for some clear that is slightly bigger than the hood.

It really doesn't seem that difficult especially if you have another person helping. Even when you lay it down you can lift it back up and stretch and smooth. Watch some youtube vids for a little education.

yeah, I thought $400 quote was a bit pricey myself!
that may include the side edge corner of the fender parts too, not sure, it was over a month ago

The hood and side fenders seem to be easiest pieces on the truck to do by oneself, even if you didn't have an extra set of hands. Just take your time. Definitely worth doing and not paying a shop to do it.

    Currently reading about Dusty's adventures.

Always wanted to go poking around in the Olympic Peninsula. Looks fantastic! Not too long of a trip for me from Vancouver. :canada:

Also, that canopy is sick.

Now's a perfect time to do it, especially if you're into muddy backroads and eating mushrooms for dinner! :1up:
The south end is our favorite, it's also about 30mins from our place but has a big buffer of National Forest before you get to the park boundary. Some good stuff on the East side too, but North and West go straight into NP, so better for hiking and backpacking than driving on backroads.

Not sure I'd be able to get through the border at the moment with everything going on. :bananadead:

I think it's still closed up for non-essential travel.

"Officer, you don't understand. It's essential I get out there to put some mud on my truck."

Hopefully when everything settles down, I'll be able to get out there!
