So I just installed the TRD Skid plate. Exhaust, wheels, and steps will be next.
I am wondering what is the difference in sound (especially at low RPMs) between stock and TRD exhaust.
Who makes the TRD for Toyota?
Is there really a pronounced or rather subtle difference between those two exhausts?
I really appreciate all your input.

Slightly louded than the standard exhaust. Doesn't really sound like a preformce until you really get into the throttle. Toyota could do better.

its soft. unless you really get on it, you wont hear it much, and even at that its still not too loud. the whole thing toyota was going for with this exhaust was the no-drone factorability. which i agree, there is none. even with the urd mkii ypipe which gives the trd exhaust a different tone altogether. i do like how the trd looks and sounds with the urd ypipe, but i want more, so im gonna end up replacing it. i dunno if im gonna go full urd, or widowmaker. anyhow, if you want an exhaust that look good (the trd tip is exclusive to the exhaust and cant be purchased seperately, unless used) and only wakes up when you get on it, then the trd pro exhaust is a fine choice. just be advised, they are pricey, as are most things trd.

If you want an exhaust with a little more oomf let us know. The TRD is well liked but is very quiet. We offer many aftermarket options that will offer a deep tone but will be louder than the TRD kit. Message me for more info and a quote if interested.

I put the TRD exhaust on my '17 after 500miles from new. It's not obnoxious, has a nice burble at idle, and nice tone at higher rpms.

And no drone which many of the aftermarket exhausts do.

I did the exhaust. Subtle, but noticeable. Not obnoxious. Not to loud on the highway. When I start out and get on it, you and others now it’s not the stock exhaust. Outside of that it just has a little deeper sound. I like it. Good mod with the trd intake.

Sounds like TRD is what I need - I want something subtle BUT noticeable. I do not usually rev. my truck so low RPM rumble is important. Some deeper tone at the start up would be nice as well. I HATE droning so any exhaust producing one is disqualified. If you guys have any video clips of stock VS TRD, can you share? YouTube does not have much...

I highly recommend it, it smooth sounding, deeper than stock, awesome fit and finish, no drone, sounds great at wot, and coupled with the TRD CAI it sounds so damn good. It completes the package. My son has a flowmaster welded in muffler that sounds a little louder and pretty damn good. He is younger and likes it a little louder. We found an exhaust tip that looks identical to the trd tip but of course no trd engraving. No drone and I think its a super 50. We had it welded in and then removed it and sprayed the exhaust pipes with a cermaic heat paint for the new look. A lot cheaper, sounds great, close to a trd as you can get for $175 and looks awesome too

Fit and finish play a very important role as well! I would get the black chrome tip. Pardon my ignorance - what is CAI? Cold air intake?

TRD is the only exhaust change I've ever heard on a Tacoma that I liked, but then again sound is subjective.

Just keep in mind that all 'TRD' is fakery. Nothing with that badge was developed in their racing program.

So my next question - how difficult it is to install TRD exhaust?

its not hard at all. its literally unbolt the stock exhaust. finagle the hangers off. manipulate the stock catback from under the truck. then reverse process with the trd catback. leave the bubble wrap on the trd tip or throw a sock over it so when youre getting the catback situated you dont accidentally scratch it up. the trd muffler is actually made by bosal. its stamped right there on the muffler.

Tape up the tip with a rag or something so you don’t mess it up with installing it

I have it and it sounds OK. Not a huge fan of the sound of V6s but mine was a port installed option. Be wary of the black tip :anonymous: mine looks like shit after a year. And after doing some quick research its pretty common for that to happen. I still like the look of the black vs chrome but just be forewarned.

I'm waxing the truck this weekend so I'll hit it with some metal polish and see what happens. But that's all pitting all over it.
