Beige is the (-) in the illumination circuit. Green is the (+).

Are you trying to say what wire is the better option people should be taping into?

The OP is adding a switch to the overhead console which has, as an option, the choice of switch illumination. This switch needs a (+)[GREEN] feed because it shares its (-)[Beige] negative illumination with the switch's ON LED, so dimming will not work on this particular switch. If it has independent illumination, then the Beige would work as it should (dimming).

OP, feel free to shoot me a PM. I think I have enough parts laying around I could whip something up.

@caribe makaira do you know if there is an ignition controlled 12v+ in that 24 pin on the OR? If you don't, I bet @daveeasa does...

I'm not making use of +12v from the 24 pin to the overhead console but I could probe it tonight and try to identify one. I would imagine there must be +12v to do the map lights at a bare minimum? Oh, but those are not ignition switched, my bad.

This is good incentive to finally connect the T harness you sent me and get my garage door switches on illumination. I will attempt that Friday or Saturday night (tonight I've been instructed is date night which means I get to pay for dinner and fill out my mail in ballot as instructed by the wife). I just got my bullet connectors in this week, yay.

    You are a true romantic!

Thanks. With that info, this would be easy enough to do.
OP, You will have to get a wire down the a-pillar to the relay, but that isn't hard.

I already have a few wires going down the a pillar.

    1 for relay
    1 for ignition
1 for illumination (this is the mystery wire)

I grounded to the bracket welded to roof.

If you want the switch light to dim with the dash lights, you'll need to use a different ground. As it sits, you have the relay wire hooked to the green wire on the switch, red on ignition, and black is grounded?

black is grounded and I really dont need the switch to dim. I just want it to illuminate with the rest of the lights when it's dark (night time). Perhaps this will happen already if I do no connect the illumination wire?

with the switch grounded, you could hook the blue switch wire (illumination) to the ignition wire, and the switch will be lit up whenever the truck is on. If you want it to only light up when the rest of the dash is lit up, then we need to do some rewiring. See my PM and let me know what option you like.

The switch has a shared ground...unless you re-make the board and run a new trace for independent illumination...switch will just be illuminated with Parking/Dash circuit IF he uses the GREEN as feed to the BLUE.

The shared ground is for the two lights in it. One light draws power from the relay feed (green), the other draws it from the illumination (blue). When the switch makes the circuit from RED to GREEN, it draws 12v+ from that completed circuit (on the GREEN side). He can hook the BLUE to the Ignition source (just share it with the RED) and the lettering on the switch will be lit up whenever the ignition is on. He can reverse GREEN and RED, and the picture will then be lit up with the ignition as well (switch will still work normally, it will just be lit up anytime the ignition is on). The ground only grounds the internal LEDs, and if he hooks it straight to ground, both will light up as long as the + side is hooked up (GREEN and BLUE). If its hooked straight to ground, they just light up 100% brightness. If he taps that black to the tan, then the whole switch will dim with the dash lights. He doesn't need to hook to the LIGHT GREEN truck wire, only if he want's the light to come on with the parking lights. And hooking the BLUE to LIGHT GREEN will only control the text of the switch lighting up. So if he wants the parking to control the text, then yes, hook up BLUE to LIGHT GREEN. I hope that makes sense?

@Rat_Bastard here is how I would wire for simplicity.
switch BLUE to truck LIGHT GREEN (pin 14)
switch BLACK to truck TAN (pin 13)
    switch GREEN to RELAY
    switch RED to IGNITION 12v+

Wiring it this way will do the following: Truck off, switch does nothing. No lights, nothing. The rest will be with the truck on:
Parking lights off, switch on: picture lights up
Parking lights off, switch off: switch is dark
Parking lights on, switch off: text is illuminated
Parking lights on, switch on: text and picture are illuminated.
The switch brightness will adjust with the dash lights.

Doing the same thing, but hooking the switch BLACK straight to ground will have the same result, except no dimming.

You can use the t-taps if you want. They are easy, and not that bad unless the are exposed to the elements. I personally try to avoid them, as the sometimes cut the wire, or will not make a good tight connection, but inside the truck you're probably okay. I can make you harness if you want, and can make the switch light up different ways if you want. Your call. Not sure what time frame you are working with. Also, just curious, but the switch you are installing, is it from AirOnBoard?
