it’s in the bypass where the hose connects. You can get it out by wiggling, pulling, and turning it gently with needle nose pliers. Be gentle and hold the plastic barb while working it out to prevent it from breaking.

Mine isn’t installed yet but I’ve found the opposite. I’m trying to find a shop to install mine. I went on Magnuson’s site and found that the local Toyota dealership was a dealer. I called them and through several back and forth emails they decided they don’t want to be a Magnuson dealer anymore. I moved on to another shop off of their site and it’s been three weeks since I got the kit and let them know I’d like to set up an appointment for install. It seems like they have no clue how to work with vF Tuner so I asked Magnuson if I could get PDF versions of the installation manuals to provide them so they could figure out what needs to be done before they take my truck apart and can’t figure out how to make it work. I don’t know why they have posted these on their website since I’m sure buyers that plan on doing the installation themselves want to see what they are getting themselves in to.

Seems like a simple request to me. I ended up scanning the vF Tuner Installation manual and sending it to the second shop and they still can’t figure things out. I’ve moved on to another Toyota dealership that did a Magnuson install in a third gen Tacoma about a month ago, except I need to drive there and stay in a hotel while they do it.

Also, my previous question seems to have been overlooked. What do I need specifically from the packaging to insure that there will no issues getting the tune? There was mention of the serial number. Is that all I need?

To answer that I will look in my instruction manual and quote the step. I don’t want to go search for my instructions so just look at yours. It’s in the OVTune instruction booklet.
I would do every step in that booklet aside from actually flashing it before you send it to the shop.

Looks like #9 in the VFTuner Flash Tool Instructions.

This is a summary how I did it.

First need a windows computer or Mac running windows. I used a Mac.

Stop anti virus and firewall programs.

    Follow steps 3 to 9.

Send the email as stated in step 9.

OV Tune will send you the Reg file in a day or two.

Run the Reg file sent by OV Tune. Steps 10 - 15. This authorizes your computer.

Step 16 - 24: Got o Magnuson Support page and download the driver.

    Install it.

Step 25 - 27: This will read your truck’s calibration so Magnuson knows which file to send you.

Step 28 -30 : Request Magnuson the calibration file by filling the online form.

Should receive the file next day. Save it were you can find it.

For the final part I went to the shop with my laptop. The technician was finalizing the install and waiting for me.

I did the flash myself with the technician watching.

    Follow steps 31 to 36.

Then the truck was started for few minutes.

bigger tires yes, but weight does not affect the dyno reading.

VFTune is easy - if you have issues go to the VFTuner thread and look for someone in your area that has it, or look for answers to your questions.

Nice! Thanks for posting this. I'm still on V5 for AT. I requested the latest file and they sent me V7 in a few minutes.

Sweet! I’m going to wait a month or so and ask then see if they get another tune after a few more people try it out. My ECU just got done learning a few days ago and V6 still feels pretty good. I just want more rev range. 6k is blue balls I want my 6.2k back at least lol

let us know how V7 performs in the AT. Hopefully much improved and they can move to perfecting 4.88's.

@OpelGT this is some great info. Thanks! I did this mod last night and I concur, definitely improved throttle response.

will be the first mod I do - before install, and possibly only mod unless smaller pulley is equally as impressive and non-destructive. I feel like the "Field" watching the rabbit and other Gray Hounds in pursuit !

based on it came from the Gen2 Magnuson mod - which has many years of testing I'd say no - absolutely none.

Most of us supercharged 1st gen guys removed it too, no drawbacks from what I could tell. Took it out a few years ago

Theoretically you could have some bypass valve flutter but I think there is like a almost zero chance of that (just the engineering degree speaking).
Also it could cause a little increased wear to the diaphragm in the bypass valve thingy because it opens and closes much more violently, but I’ve never heard of anyone having these issues.
Worst case scenario you have to replace the $150 part a few hundred miles sooner. I’ll take that risk:)
