Anyone else have trouble with their CV boots tearing?
I replaced my passenger side 2000-3000 miles ago and now my driver side ripped.

In my experience, the inner is always the first to go.

I just put new boots and grease on my OEM Axles last weekend.
The rock auto ones I currently have installed didn’t last much longer than a year.
OEM boots from Toyota seem to be more durable than what comes on your run of the mill aftermarket CV Axles.

CVJ Axles are know to be pretty good.
They also offer Moderate Lift - High Angle Inner boot axles.

I think they’re just getting old honestly. I’m not the first owner of this truck so i don’t know if the guy before me had them changed or not.

I replaced the passenger side with the duralast cv axles and it’s hold up pretty good so far

That’s exactly what caused the boots to fail.

when you put the new ones in was there a little bit of play when you put them in?
And did you replace the seal?

If the boot fins are touching at all they will tear again. I went through several cv axles because of this before I finally gave in and just lowered my lift. It's nice to have to worry about torn boots all the time.

Your cv axles are constantly spinning while driving so the boots fail quick when they are rubbing, even if it's only a little bit. You should be able to slide a piece of paper between the fins. If you can't, they are rubbing too much

what kind of lift did you have at first?
I have a 6 inch rough country lift that was on it when I bought it, I thought about lowering it to a 3 inch but I think to install this lift that is on it, it had some fabrication work that I don’t think can be replaced.

2.5" is generally the safe bet, anything over that and the CV angles cause the boots to rub and the axles to fail. Some people get away with a sold 3" lift but it never worked well for me
