Raised this little guy from birth, and after he got to age 1.5 years old (Bottom pic) I spent 8 months re-introducing him to the pride. His momma abandoned him at birth.

They don’t live that long. He’s been gone now for some time.

No problem. It’s a complex story that probably isn’t appropriate for this thread. In a very small nutshell, I understood that for him to have a chance of integrating into the pride I would have to break our very strong bond, hard as that would be. The process of reintroduction was complicated and dangerous, but ultimately successful. Shortly thereafter I left for Namibia where I had been asked to come and assist with a cheetah conservation effort, and where I began a period of a decade or so, there, and in Botswana and Zimbabwe. but I did come back a few years later for a visit and while he was by then an integrated member of that pride, there was no question that when he heard my voice (from the safety of a Landcruiser) and saw me, that he recognized me and attempted to approach for a closer look-see. As hard as it was I was pleased that he was living his life as a lion amongst lions rather that living a life as a “pet” amongst humans.
