Dave - That business of the "treatments" that don't do anything - "abundance of caution" and so-on, aggravated me more than pop. If he had doubts, he kept them to himself for sure. On principle, I had to keep my mouth shut - it simply wasn't my call.

But ...... as far as I could tell, some of the "common practices" were simply milking Medicare. Pop wore a pacemaker for 7 years, and dutifully phoned the download receiver on Sundays the whole time. He also suffered the ding-a-lings at TSA over the "hidden device" he set off all the airport alarms with. No amount of documentation seemed to help that a bit. I much later, found that it had never actuated - his particular disease seldom ever (like never) results in fibrillation. My sister (family CPA) told me it cost uncle sam about $100,000.

Getting old sucks. Brake job on my truck took much longer than expected, as this old body doesn't move as fast as it used to, and those wheels & tires are HEAVY!
I also didn't realize how expensive new rotors are. How can Toyota rotors made in China cost about the same as made in Germany OEM for my BMW?

Only an officer would say “good” morning and 0100
hrs. Evening is more like it for working people.

    Have a good one.

I'm probably in the minority here. But for things like brakes I stick with OEM. They likely cost more, but I've never had problems fitment or longevity.

    Afternoon all:
Same here, when I replaced brakes on the "07" Tacoma I went with OEM, they weren't that expensive and I got excellent millage out of the OEM's that it came with.

With my daily clunkers & wheezers I have been using Wagner pads for many years. The Quick Stop series is the cheaper line but seem to have a nice aggressive bite. On the heavier vehicles like the F-250 and the van I use the Severe Duty line. The Toyota will probably get OEM pads "just because"...

Betcha dem parts were made in China.

And you don't live on Oahu where dealer parts are only available from the monopoly dealer so they cost a LOT more. But then again, everything's more expensive here.

I said I was likely a minority. Tires I’ll shop for. Shocks I’ll shop for. Brake parts, I want what the engineers speced out. I’m just funny that way.

I check also, every morning 0500 or so. Two mornings ago, my wife heard a scratching noise from the chimney. Sure enough a racoon trying to get in. He ate a .22 long slug, from dad's old Henry.

I went over early yesterday and cooked breakfast for dad. He was complaining that he couldn't do it himself so I helped out. Poached egg on a nice thick slice of fresh tomato, with a slice of toasted hard crust Italian bread. Pretty easy, and very tasty. Later on in the day we went for a stroll with his new Medicare-issued wheelchair, which seems to be pretty nicely made. There's a goldfish pond with a pretty big man-made waterfall in the back of their independent living place; it's a very peaceful spot, nestled into the hillside, and the birds are not the least bit shy about coming around when there are humans present. The air was calm, the sun was warm. We had a nice sit. He told me tales from his youth that I'll not be repeating!
