I would recommend KM3s over the KM2s. They are better offroad, and more comfortable. The KM2s felt a lot stiffer than the KM3 even though they are both E load range. The KM3s flex better, and I think it helps with the ride as well. I have run KM2s and now KM3s in 255/85 on 16x8 wheels with 0 offset.

Do you think that is because the 3rd gen off road has +25 offset wheels instead of +30? Or because the wheel well is actually different?

both I believe. The offset allows you to use the stock wheel and clear the UCA and there seems to be more room in the front wheel well as the 3rd gens sit taller stock than a 2nd gen did.

Anyone go from 285/75/16 down to the 255/85/16? I have ST Maxx in the 285. I love the tire itself but I am not sure what I would gain by going skinnier.

Lighter turning effort, the truck will feel more nimble.

Do you have any lift installed? I'm looking at picking a set up before I install my lift. I'm unsure if they will fit. 4" backspace 0mm offset on the new wheels.

Yes, Bilstein 5100 885 and Wheeler Offroad's single AAL.
I've posted in this thread more details.
Don't need a lift to fit these but you do need the correct BS.

these trucks where built for the 255 in my opinion. It just feels like it belongs on this truck it’s lighter smoother and just matches our already smaller nimble pick ups. I’ve driven the wide stuff and there is a noticeable difference especially off road. I went skinny and I will probably never go back.

I did a search through the thread and have been reading a bit about all the tire sizes. Has anyone had any experience with this size tires on an otherwise stock 3rd gen SR5 with the SX wheels?

Just got mine installed about 100 miles ago. Speedometer is off 3 miles per hour at 70 (it’s really 73). I don’t notice much of a power difference coming from 265/75R16 but my tire wheel combo weighs in at 100 lbs on both. I do notice worse transmission shifting on cruise control on the highway. The engine more constantly has to downshift and rev up hard to keep speed. They still handle fine in curves. I went with Toyo Open Country A/T III and they seem ok, nothing amazing but I haven’t had them off road or in rain or anything yet.

I'm glad that I took the time and read a couple million pages of this thread. I have those same wheels on my truck, but I just picked up some 255/85's and had them mounted on the 3rd gen TRD OR wheels. The shop said that there is a good chance that they might rub my JBA UCA's, so they are recommending spacers. I really don't know how I feel about running them, but glad to know that I am not the only one that needs them. I was wondering if mounting them on the wheels that you're running would help. I guess not.

I ordered those Toyo's at first, then I saw that the Yokohama G003 MT's were almost 10lbs lighter. They're within a pound or so of the Kumho AT51 265/75r16's that I am currently running. I actually like the look of the stock steel wheels, more than the TRD OR wheels, but they are almost 10lbs lighter, each. My Taco is the 4 banger, she needs all the help she can get! lol

True, that four banger doesn't have much torque. If I were in your shoes I would go p series in a winter tire. The weight reduction is substantial and unless you go off road over tree roots and sharp rocks you should not need a heavy sidewall. You'll still get the appearance and maintain acceleration. Best of luck.

Then regear before spinning heavies. See if you can borrow a set to see how she does before you spend the dollars. 15 mins will be all you need.

You need 4.5" of back spacing.
Mine have 5.25" and they rubbed a little on the uca so I added 1" spacers and now they are fine.
    Handles really well.
    I don't notice any issues.
Think its much better to have wheels with the correct back space.
