73 miles today. Probably my longest ride so far. I think I need to get some ear plugs now. Riding home on the freeway at 75mph my ears are hurtin. Felt great to get a good ride in today

Back home safe and sound from the Co-Void 20/20 rally. 943 miles in roughly 35 hours minus an almost 9 hour rest break due to circumstances beyond our control that derailed an other wise good route and plan. Picked something up in my rear tire Friday night at some point and while blasting up I-79 towards our rest bonus and hotel for the night it started going flat. Exited and limped it to a gas station where I reinflated it using the small pump we carry as the gas station air was out of service. Got it up to my 42psi and searched the tire for th3e offending object. Didn't find anything. Used the windshield stuff they had by their pumps on the entire tire and valve stem and found no sign of bubbles or leakage. Rode to the hotel hoping for the best. Got up this morning to a flat tire. Limped it to Barnes Brothers in Canonsburg where they were able to find something about the size of a pin in one of the sipes of the tire at an angle. Dealerships won't plug or patch a tire due to liability and the hole is so small I think it should be done form the inside. One of their staff made a phone call to a friend at another shop and got a tire brought over for me and shortly thereafter we were back on the road. Sadly all of this cost us about 3 hours of time we just couldn't make up. Dropped several big point bonuses and lost out on a combo bonus that was huge but we finished and are home safe. Will find out our finish position sometime Sunday.

Sorry to hear about your tire troubles, that had to put a damper on the rally. Glad y'all made it safe and didn't have a catastrophic blowout or anything.

Gotta tell you it was nerve-wracking being 2-up and loaded bike when it first started. Bike just didn't want to turn and I mean simple stuff like the corners on the interstate. Dropped speed way back and moved carefully to right lane until I could get to exit. Once I got tire reinflated we rode alost 20 miles to hotel and it seriously felt fine. Got up in morning and it's flat again. Even with dish soap mixed with water it did not bubble. I could actually hear a faint hiss but it never bubbled.

That sucks, on the bright side you will always have that memory and everything worked out in the end. Life would be boring without the ups and downs.

That's a big part of why I like these events. How well you do often comes down to how well you can adapt and overcome issues as they arise. Yeah the flat sucked and on an almost new tire on top of it. Weather was awesome and we hit some roads Friday that were just awesome.

No, slime is of the devil when it comes time to change the tire. Only to be used in a pinch.

changing the tire being a mess is the problem for the tire changer...

the point of doing this is for the cheap insurance for the rider...

it seems to be a popular move for the adventure riders and the stunt riders

the adventure riders want to avoid flats as much as possible
the stunt riders do it to be able to ride a lower PSI

I would never use it in any of my tires, bike or truck. In my case I'm the tire changer. I'd rather just stash a plug kit and inflator on the bike on a long ride.

Also enjoy how Ryan talks about slime, and then says he'd never use it, that most mechanics will decline to patch a tire that has it in it, and that he'd use Rideon that works kind of differently.

i think a big part of this is in effort to avoid a rapid deflation at speed though as well... which in that case having gear to fix a flat is an after thought, in the event you drop pressure so fast that you go down...

So I realized last night that my headlights badly need to be repositioned. Was my first time riding at night since I put my fairing on and the brights are pointed so high up its stupid.
