It was a joke. Like when that kid posted on my car forums about his car wont start. Cuz his brother said "You need more compression for hp, so fill your tank half-way with water to up the compression", so the kid stuck a garden hose in the fuel door of his Ford Probe for about 5 minutes. Then went to start it. Now he's confused and posting on ProbeTalk about what went wrong.

    (sigh)

This just happened to me today. Was going about 60, truck cut off and I coasted to a stop on the side of the road. Just filled up with gas about 2 miles away. 06 dcsb.

Back in 1982 I had a 1976 Plymouth Arrow. The gas tank straps rusted through on one side but the tank did not fall out. I had to get the part from the dealer and the alert parts guy told me that was a recall item. He contacted the service manager who met me in the parts department. He arranged a tow, performed the recall work, and a free tank of gas. The car was only 6 years old.

This was up in the rust belt.

Wow! thats some crazy stuff, im glad that you were ok at least and that you were able to coast to a safe area. It looks like RCI started selling the Toyota OEM fuel tank straps since the OP created this thread, if you cant find them at a local auto parts store: https://rcimetalworks.com/product/toyota-fuel-tank-straps/

    That would suck.
I replaced my straps only because I wanted a skid plate and the original straps didn't have studs on them.
