    Hey guys

New member and new to Tacomas! Picked up a 2021 Cement TRD Off Road a couple of days ago and I want to get it ready for some off roading but I need some advice about lifts as I am new to this and i'd like to slap on a pair of 17x7 or 17x8/8.5 inch wheels with 33's. What's the better option, go for a body lift or a full suspension? Looking to be around 3inch lift. Trying to lift it so the tires can fit and not have rubbing or sacrifice full lock. Right now I have the stock bilstein shocks the car comes with. Looking for light to medium off roading, nothing extreme. Let me know what you guys advise and which product/brand is the best of either a body lift or a suspension lift kit. Thank you!

Doing some hard core stuff, or just joining the "Bro-Cool" club??

Welcome to TW. Tons of info here so get out your search stuff.

If you are planning on 33's then do 2.5 inch coilover for the front with UCA's. you might have to hack your body mounts a little so that the tires don't hit when your compressed and full turned. Honestly just comes down to how much you want to spend and purpose of your lift.

A suspension lift is NOT going to allow you to run any bigger tires that you can on stock suspension on a Tacoma. It’s completely bad advice from many here that it will, it simply won’t. All it will do is allow more travel before the wheel hits, but if the wheel hits with stock suspension it’ll hit with lifted.

Most lifts don’t change the the upper and lower most wheel position from stock (well not by much), what they do is change where the wheel sits within that same travel under normal load, that’s why lift doesn’t allow bigger tires over stock.
There are some exceptions to this, like some / most of the 6” lifts actually change the wheel travel, or spacer lifts limit the up travel, but both of those style lifts have many other issues to take into consideration.
Since one of the main rub points on Tacoma is the chassis (cab mount), a body lift also doesn’t allow larger wheels.

so if you are lifting just because you think you can fit larger wheels for off road without doing any other modifications (And you intent to use full travel) your wasting your money. If you are lifting for show / don’t use full travel / intend to cut n trim / rub points and many other reasons then perfect. Just trying to set your expectations appropriately.
Many people lift put larger tires and say it clears, then will come back and say well it rubs in reverse when turning, or it rubs a little on X lock under some compression etc etc. Any rub at any point is completely unacceptable IMO. So that’s a little of my definition to “rubbing/clearance”.

You can literally four-wheel the shite out of it without a lift.

    Like, so many.
I recommend keeping it stock for a while as you learn your truck and learn how you’ll use it. It’s very capable. Maybe look at the 255s. You can fit those as is and they are true 33s.
