So I noticed this oil splatter on the front of my rear axle. Crawled underneath to check it out, couldn't find any kind of leak anywhere. There's also a little on my gas tank, leaf springs, and some other places.

My transmission bell housing has always weeped a bit of oil that never seems to drop on the ground. It seems to accumulate on the bottom crossmember right below where it seeps out of.

My theory is that when driving down the road, a drop or two must be dropping and splattering back on the axle/diff. What do y'all think? Has anyone experienced something similar?IMG_20201010_141236.jpg IMG_20201010_141304.jpg IMG_20201010_141350.jpg

Who does your oil? When I got my truck I took it to jiffy a few times for oil changes. After the last time, I got home parked it and went back out to my truck a few hours later and saw a few pools of oil underneath. I looked at the underside and oil was splattered all over the place. Rear diff/axle, parts of the frame, gas tank, etc. The culprit? When they removed the oil filter they let it drain into my splash guard. When I drove down the fwy the wind picked it up and sprayed it everywhere.

I was wondering about this, but it's not the first time I've noticed it. I've noticed similar splatter before.

Are you losing any appreciable amount of oil when you check your dipstick?

Wow. That's why I don't like quick lube places! I usually do my own changes so I know it wasn't something I did.

Nope she never seems to burn any oil. All I ever notice is this:
IMG_20201010_141345.jpg weeping at the oil plan and bell housing alot of times there will be one or two drips pooled there but never enough to leak on the ground. It's been doing this for probably a few years now? But I wouldn't think the little drops that pool on there would be enough to make that splatter unless it's doing it everytime I drive somewhere.

I have the 2.7l four cylinder I notice small oil drips in the same area, I think its when you change the oil filter some old oil spills on the side of the block even after I clean the area thoroughly

Thats why it was the last time I ever took it to have someone else do it lol. When that happened I finally manned up and bought some tools for the garage and never looked back.

I think that could be part of it. I have tried wiping it up before and it always seems to show up again a few days later.

A little oil like that isn't really going to hurt anything. As long as your level on the dipstick doesn't drop between changes, I wouldn't sweat it. Just drive it and check your oil about once per week.
On my old T-100, the valve cover gaskets seeped for years. When I finally found a drop on the concrete in my driveway, then I changed them.

That truck is still rolling around Des Moines with my nephew. It has a little over 310,000 miles on it now. He sends me a picture of the odometer from time to time.

My opinion, just keep an eye on it.
