I have a 2008 Tacoma (manual transmission)(4 cyl). Last winter, a squirrel ate my wiring harness near the driver's side firewall in the engine compartment. Cost a bit for repairs. I put metal hardware cloth in hopes of protecting it.

A couple of days ago, my handbrake warning light would not go off. I checked the fluid level of my master cylinder reservoir(clutch and brake combined unit). It was just at the minimum fill line. I looked closer, and low and behold a damn squirrel had gotten in and put a couple of small slices (punctures) in the rubber hose that connects to the master cylinder and goes to the firewall. The squirrel also destroyed the rubber hose that slips over punctured hose. I took the end of the hose off at the master cylinder to measure. Looks like a 3/8" id. I then put it back on.

By the way, the brakes and clutch work as good as always. In other words, no change.

Question: If I just replace the hose, and of course fill the reservoir, will I need to bleed anything?

EDIT: Oh, and maybe my thread title is wrong. It may be called the Clutch reservoir hose. It comes from the plastic reservoir used to fill brake and clutch fluid, and goes into a nipple in the firewall. It is just a slip on hose with hose clamps.

sounds like the damned thing got the fill tube for the clutch master, i wouldnt drive it untill you repair and refill as you could introduce air into the system. Make sure you get a hose thats brake fluid safe.

Thank's. I will get the correct hose. Do you think I will have to bleed anything when I do the hose replacement?

In years gone by I had an issue with mice eating the vacuum lines on my old motor home. The solution was to tie wrap Bounce (or similar) fabric softener sheets around the line. They hated the smell. Haven’t had a problem since. Worth a try!
