Pop/Creak over Bumps and Flex

I have a very frequent pop or creak noise coming from the driver's side B-pillar/ rear door/C-pillar. I cannot seem to figure out where or what is going on exactly.

I've been through most every fix on Tacomaworld with no luck. I don't think its the door seals as I have witnessed the sound with the rear driver door open (while moving, yes it wasn't a smart idea). I have taken the rear driver door panel off, still hear the noise with it off, and don't see any obvious areas of wear. I've lubed the felt window tracks.

Also, this is not leaf spring squeak, I have that too but it doesn't bother me. This is very loud and abrupt and is right in my left ear.

Hitting bumps on one side of the vehicle cause the noise most often. Bumps encountered head on with both tires don't seem to cause the noise.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

Is your truck stock? Roof rack installed or anything like that?

 

Do you have rock sliders by chance? I had a similar noise caused by the slider on my passenger side to barely touch the lower part of my front right fender if the truck would flex enough or hitting hard bumps at speed. Took me a bit to figure it out.

 

No sliders or roof rack. I do have a tonneau cover (vinyl rolling). I have a homemade bed slide but I'm very confident it's not that. It definitely sounds like something hitting sheet metal, like taught plastic smacking body work. It definitely is coming from the cab, wether internal (I think) or external. Mud flaps is a good thought, I can certainly remove those.

I am bone stock. I have street tires too.

 

I have the same thing, I have a froze up alignment cam passenger side front that's not flexing during articulation making the noise im pretty sure, I hit it with silicon spray quiets it for awhile, definetly getting on my nerves lately, over a speed bump creeeeeek creeeeek sucks

 

Picture hitting the door sheet metal with the tip of your fingernail. The noise is very acute and quick.

 

jup, I also get a creak getting in/out of the truck on drivers and passenger side im thinking cab bushings maybe

 

try spraying down all the cam alignment bolts with silicon spray see if it goes away. its only temporary fix tho

supposedly those oem rubber bushings wear out, you can also spray them down with silicon spray to see if the creeeeeek ceases

 

I heard poly bushings make that sound even worse

 

me too. I think you can buy the OEM rubber ones if you need a replacement, im almost sure my creeeek is a frozen cam bolt not articulating, if I soak the suspect bolt with silicon it quiets down, thru the process of elimination and the fact I cant get the bolt to loosen or tighten im almost 100% sure its my problem and man I hate hearing that creeeeeeeeeking

 

As someone who replaced all the rubber in an older vehicle with poly because it was cheaper. Yes, yes it makes it much louder. Especially when it is cold out. Basically whenever the car moved/ turned it sounded like a naked ass going down a slide on the playground.

 

those poly bushings have zero give when the body flexes

 

They’re just suppose to be more durable and that’s about it right?

I remember applying poly to the rubber in the motor mounts from my last car(to reinforce per the rave on the forums), holy idle vibes

 

they work really good on the sway bar, I had replaced some rubber ones over the years with poly ones work great there

 

Yeah those and the radiator mount bushings(once again from what I’ve heard) are the most ideal to use poly bushings. Control arms and shackle mounts too. I guess wherever it pivots, it’s better to use poly, with the exception of the radiator mounts. Have you switched those?

 

I have looked into all them but I have done an inspection of the OE bushings on mine look in good shape im still in stock config. no lifts etc. I did hit all them off with silicon just for kicks that stuff protects the rubber and keeps it from cracking/drying out its a good rubber lube, doesn't attract dirt

 

I wish I had learned about that preventative method earlier on. Thanks for that simple info!
