I'm new to being a truck owner having recently purchased my 2016 Tacoma. Love it.

I want a topper but I'm surprised how expensive they seem to be. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on where I might find a good deal.

I see a lot of 2nd gen used toppers for sale on Craigslist and FB Marketplace but my limited research suggests they won't work with my 2016 Tacoma.

I have the 5ft bed. The local dealer I contacted wants $1375-$1750 for a new topper depending on model. I really don't want to spend that much but maybe that is a good deal?

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, there's not a whole lot to it. Lurk around on Craigslist and maybe Facebook marketplace for a few weeks/months to get a feel for prices. In my experience, buying a used topper typically works out just fine.

That being said, I was probably looking online for a solid year or so, and I was ready to pay $1,800 or so for the right used topper if one became available. Luckily, a local shop (Suburban Toppers near Denver) was having a hell of a sale, and I got the exact topper I wanted for $2,000 brand new. Typically, it would have been $2,500 or so, so it was worth it for me.

Thank you. I'm also in Denver and that is the place I called. I'll be now patient and also get a better sense for what make/model I want.
