    my only worry was that the axle could “seize” due to the lack of grease and can cause some sort of failure.

    The axle most likely won't seize unless you drive with the torn boot for a long time. People let those go frequently

    yes, you have time to do it however way you want.

    My personal experience with a split boot was in the '80s on a K-car.
    It didn't exactly keep the bottom clean but a little CV grease goes a long way, maybe it's made of Neverseize.

    It can but there's still grease in there coating the bearings and internals. The main issue is that if the tear is big enough or you start going through water/mud, then debris can get into it and that will pose more of a threat. But a small tear/hole that lets the excess grease out won't cause any immediate danger to the axle imo. Biggest issue is that it makes an unholy mess

    Wipe down what you can and then use brake clean on the rest.

    Lol. I tore a boot at 26k miles. Said fuck it. I'll run it till failure.

    Sold the truck at 300k miles. It never failed.

    That's no fun there! I'm definitely not going to encourage anyone else doing this but I found that spraying brake clean in the stream of air coming out of my blow gun works even better than just spraying brake clean alone lol.

    Brake clean and starting fluid are very similar in their abilities to break down grease. Starting fluid is a dollar a can cheaper.

    I actually use it to "dry clean" my ball caps. It cleans the sweat stain off and dries residue free. You can wear the hat in 15 minutes.

    Works great on oil stains on the driveway concrete as well.

    I've never used anything better.
