Looking for some Ideas for slings...

I ask questions like this because I like opinions on products people ACTUALLY use.

Hello everybody  I have been looking at AR’s and considering a few. I haven’t used one since the late 80’s but have wanted one for a while. I’m not up to date on all the new optics for them but that is another topic. The ones I have narrowed it down to are the Savage SMR 15 Recon, Springfield Saint (most likely the Victor) or the M&P M15 sport. I’m kinda leaning more toward the Saint but any input is welcome. I know from a little reading in here most of you it seems build your own

POF are definitely in the top tier, with a focus on engineering. They are not just a AR milling factory. I have 2 of their drop in triggers and I prefer it to any other trigger and I have tried a lot of them.

The options you listed aren't bad for a retail gun but if I weren't building myself I'd probably get a complete Aero lower and buy a complete BCM upper to go with it. Turner Armament is a smaller shop in NC that makes a good product from what I hear as well. They have a standard 16in rifle on their site but I've read they will build pretty much anything you want if you give them a call.

Trying to stay under a thousand for a starter. If I get into this more then building my own would be ideal. I will have to look up their shop though thanks

A couple questions if I may.
The hammer pin was protruding 1/8". I pushed it back in easily. Is here anything that is supposed to hold it?
    20201011_143159[1].jpg
The handguard rotates a bit, shown in the pic. Any way to tighten it?
    20201011_144543[1].jpg
doh it's the pin to the right of the one the bullet is pointing to.

Looks like tension from hammer spring holds the pin in. Maybe put some blue locktite on the end to keep it from vibrating out

If you're really worried about your pins walking there are multiple anti-walk and anti-rotation options available. I have KNS anti-rotation pins on several of mine and like them. Although I'm thinking of switching one of them out for Strike Industries anti-walk pins just to try out because no tools are needed to remove them. They're also cheaper than the KNS.

    https://www.strikeindustries.com/si-ar-awp.html

Someone more knowledgeable on delta rings may want to weigh in but I really don't think rotation in your second picture is an issue. As long as the spring is exerting adequate compression on the hand guard I dont believe orientation matters.

I agree with you on BCM but they are mostly sold out right now so you are limited on options. Ive been looking from time to time. My first AR was a BCM carbin length upper. I've since added a DD rail.
I dont have first hand experience but Im not real excited with the ones you listed. That being said I would prob take the M&P. If it was me I'd get a colt, FN, PSA premium (made with FN parts) or BCM. Are you including optic in the 1k budget? What are you looking to do with the rifle? Personally I think a 20 in rifle with irons would be a great first rifle.

Edit to add. Brownells has colt 16 in carbine length uppers in stock for $550. You'd need rear sight, bcg and charging handle. You should be able to find colt BCGs for $200 or under. Tool craft BCGs is another good brand. I think colt carry handles go for $100 but you could get a cheaper one made by a different company.
