I'm planning to purchase a pop up camper next year to pull with my 06 taco with the factory towing package. I was putting air in my spare tire yesterday when I noticed the condition of my factory tow hitch. My bumper is trashed, so I knew I would need to replace this to get the truck to pass inspection, but the hitch also looks equally as trashed. When I say trashed, I mean rust. Large chunks were flaking off as I poked it, I'm thinking I probably should not tow with it. With that being said, is it worth it to get another OEM hitch or just go for an aftermarket one? I don't intend on towing anything bigger than a pop up camper.

Any name brand that meets the class rating you need will be fine.

But if your hitch is that rusted, how is the frame?

Frame was replaced right before i purchased the truck, but I guess the original owner had them throw back on the same hitch. Since i've had the truck, i coat the frame and underside of the truck every year with fluid film.

    Good.

When you get your replacement hitch installed, treat it too.
