Thats where Im at currently. Just bought the truck in July and did a few things but need work to start picking back up before ai get to anything else. Seems like every upgrade/mod I want to do currently is around the $1000 mark.

 

are these LTs or P/SL Rated?

 

LT, they’re E load but they ride nicer than my C load KO2’s did.

Yes, I realize what the dimensions are and how they work. This is why I said "compared to" a 285 tire. Obviously, they aren't stretched in the same way drifters and stance boys do it. I've found the one significant factor in how stretched/wide a tire can appear to be is the tire design more than stated size. The stated width is sidewall width, not actual contact patch, so two tires may have the same width (and size) but have different contact patches. Some tires have a contact patch similar to the sidewall width and others have a contact patch significantly narrower than the sidewall width which can make them look more stretched even if they are not.

 

I have 50K miles now on my 255/75/17 Goodyear duratracs. In that 50K, the only thing I'm not happy about is cornering. I don't know if its the duratrac or because its "skinny" or because its a skinny duratrac. But what I get is tire chirp while making sharp turns. I put my stock wheels and tires back and would have to really push the truck to get the same chirp on the same corner.
I really want to go with the 255s again but not if they all will act like that. I've tried different tire pressures, no difference.

 

Those 255s are 58lbs, the 265 70 17 c load KO2 is 45lbs. Hard to believe the 255 Maxx in E rides better than the C KO2. There’s a guy in the STT pro thread that says his 255 Maxxs ride worse than his 285 STT Pros.
I think the Maxxs are good tires if you are in hardcore spots lots.
Checked here at local dealer, no 255s in stock till mid November.

 

I don’t have maxxs, I have falkens at3w’s.

 

Got some Kenda 35x10.5xR17 installed today. Here are before and after pics. I also went from a 16" wheel to a 17" wheel.

Edit: I was running 285/75/R16 before.

 

Has anybody found mud flaps that work with 255 85 16 S/T Maxx without rubbing on stock suspension? Had to remove my front OEM cause of the rub and now my paint is getting smoked by rocks. Not the end of the world but I’d prefer to avoid some of this collateral damage if possible.

Man, I've wanted an E36 M3 since high school and still do, I like the E46 a lot as well.

 

I've been wondering whether this opinion would surface at some point. Why do you think 4.88s would have been better? Are you limited in top speed?

 

I would guess cruising rpms are a tad high. I don’t think anyone is topping out their Tacoma haha

 

If you live in the west where the speed limit is 75-80 you can definitely top out a Tacoma with low gearing.

 

Agreed. When I said "limited" I didn't mean topping out in speed, but as @HighCountryTacoma said I was wondering whether those cruising rpms at highway speeds are the main variable. In all the 4.88/5.29 threads I've read the 5.29 guys seem to say they are happy with their choice since the gap between the two ratios really aren't that far apart. @Silverlogic is the first I've seen with 5.29s that said they would bump down to 4.88s if they could do it again.
