I mounted 2 Rocky Mount Driveshafts to a 2x10 (or 2x8?) that rests in the bed pockets. I'd like for the bars to be lower than the cab but it's also nice to easily reach the fork mount from the side of the truck. I'd like to have a wheels on option but this is what's working for now.

I have a camper shell, so I just roll my bike in (at an angle) and get the wheels pushed along the bedside corner and the front pressed into the back of the cab.
To keep it there and keep the weight of the bike bouncing up and down on the pedal/crank, I hook a tie-down to the rail at the cab-end, through the seat post area of the frame, back to the tailgate end rail.
With wheels wedged, I can cinch the bike by a fairly strong part of the frame up to bed rail height, and the handle bar pressed up on the camper roof. The bike ends up slung about at about 45*, so well clear of the pedal .
I fit two bikes that way pretty easily; 3 bikes and I need to start removing pedals.
I taken 2 bikes plus camping gear for 2 weeks in Moab in the camper this way.

So here you go; tie-down not included.

    edit for clarity:

Yep, RakAttach works great. Worth the money if you need to get gear in the bed without removing the bikes. I do a lot of flyfishing so it's nice not to have to do the bike shuffle every time I see promising water.

I love my hitch mounted rack.
I've used this same rack on several cars and 2 trucks now hauling our bikes securely all over the South.
I bought it so long ago I don't even remember the brand. o_O
That swing-away rack above is really nice!

I went with the Rocky Mounts locking through axle and ordered a front bed rail. I wasn't a fan of the hitch mount ones because the block the backup sensors and you have to take them on and off. I have to remove the front tire, but its worth it.

I just did a Prinsu Setup bc I was tired of taking off my tent to use my tailgate pad. I used a Rocky Mounts HM thru axle mount and a 10" cut of a bike tray with a strap. they're fasted to the channel with carriage bolts

I think I'm back on the tailgate pad train right now. Raceface T2 only has the Patina color in stock right now which is a bummer. I may have to go with the EVOC which looks like a great pad too.

Hitch mounted rack is the way to go. I got one on Amazon, it carries four bikes...works like a charm $100

For those that have the tailgate pads, I'm assuming i have to remove my factory tonneu to carry two 29ers in the bed vs just having it flipped back to the last position? (Standard Bed)

Which one did you get for that price? That's a crazy price and has me concerned with quality.

I have Delta fork mounts set up on the front bed rail which works fine unless we need the truck bed. I also have a roof rack and some nice Yakima roof rails, though I’ve never used them with this truck.

But the best is the Thule Easy Fold hitch mount. This is the Cadillac of bike carriers, if you have no more than 2 bikes. We carry 2 e-bikes—one mountain-style, one cyclocross style—easily. Very sturdy, and very secure—would be extremely hard to remove or tamper with. It’s not cheap, but especially if you have heavier bikes and don’t want to mess with taking the wheels off or climbing into the truck bed it’s a great solution.
