Doubt your truck will be a guinea pig. The dealerships have been replacing fuel pumps on Corollas and Highlanders already.[/QUOTE]

Ok, as I said, I was told mine is the dealerships FIRST Tacoma fuel pump replacement under this recall. A Tacoma is not a Corolla, nor is it a Highlander, nor is it an Apache attack helicopter or a Maytag dishwasher. But thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m hopeful that the mechanic will get everything reassembled without issue

    Mozart,

So by your analogy above your dealership service dept has never changed out a LP fuel pump or dropped a fuel tank on a 3rd Gen Tacoma which have been out since 2016? I think your SM meant yours is the first Tacoma to be serviced under the recall? I hardly doubt this is their first rodeo.

Anyhow good luck to you and be sure to report back how it went good or bad.

You're gonna make me work on a Friday night?

Here is a link to which Toyota Certified Technicians can perform specific safety recalls

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10154795-9999.pdf

And here is the link to Toyota's step by step technical instructions for the Toyota certified technician to perform the safety recall for the Toyota LP fuel pump safety recall. Please note this copy is from NHTSA's website and they have not posted the updated copy to include the Tacoma yet:

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RCRIT-20V012-8851.pdf

Note the process is similar for the other models as I stated before. Again, this isn't their first rodeo, so don't drown your sorrows too much on your lost shame game after all it is Friday night and this is just TW at its finest hour. Guinea pigs and all, lols!

Believe me, most technicians and/or mechanics don't live a charmed life. At least I didn't but I was smart enough to manage my finances wisely.

Be careful who you troll on here next time is the best advice I can give you.

I don’t know how many fuel tanks they’ve dropped on 3rd gens in the past 4 years. Can’t imagine that many. Prior to this recall, nothing in the fuel tank area has been a known issue, as far as I’m aware. It’s entirely possible they haven’t done a single one yet.

Anyway, Thanks. I’ll post back after it’s done.

My truck was at a Toyota dealership for an oil change on 2/2/2020. They told my wife that there is a recall for the fuel pump but at that time they did not have the part/s yet. If we decided to take the truck we have to sign a waver that if anything happens that we would be responsible. We told them no and they gave us a rental. Fast forward to 10/6/2020. They call us to pick up the truck and that the recall was completed. 9+ months - crazy. When I got the truck back, it wasn’t even washed for 9 months.

Wow, may parts are in but in waiting until Friday to bring my truck in for the work. They are also going to "perform" the radar recall or whatever it was as well.
Well they are going to say they did it because I put the tape over the top and haven't had any issues.

You're missing the fact the older Tacomas have fuel pumps located on the fuel tank and most of the qualified Toyota technicians have the training, experience , resources and know how to R&R a fuel pump. They won't even perform the recall procedure in their main shop or near other employees due to the dangers of highly flammable gasoline. My recall was done away from the dealership's main shop in a separate enclosed canopy structure.

You need to quit stressing and pay no attention to Mr. Drama on here. You're truck will most likely be fine.

The tundra, sequoia and 4runner are all active, they are very similar to Tacoma and all take less than 2 hours.

You drop the tank, thats it.

There's no learning curve to the Tacoma, the only odd one is the avalon.

FWIW, same exact thing happened to me. I called the day before based on a hunch and they hadn’t ordered the pump. Postponed appt. to next week and they can’t get me a loaner either.

Had mine (2.7) replaced this morning. No evidence it was done. Not sure if that's good or bad. No mention of the heavy wool wax and fluid film all under there by anyone. I came home and climbed under to see if I could see any evidence of my tank being dropped. Nothing I could see. So either they did a hell of a job and I'm happy. Or they did nothing and said they did. Time will tell.

I called them last week and they said they had the pumps and I could come by any time and get it done. So I'm headed there tomorrow. No idea if they were going to call me on their own or not.
