Probably using poor search criteria but can anyone point me in a promising direction for t-slot nuts that are threaded vertically through a taller base of the "T"? Not having luck even through McMaster-Carr.

    Mahalo!

You may have to have some custom made at a machine shop. How many do you need?

These are probably the best and they're a vendor here. Aluminum so they won't rust to the bed rails. There's slightly cheaper ones on eBay that are steel.

@six5creed probably four. perhaps 6. Father-in-law has a CNC & tap/die but seems like a lot of work for what I'm looking to do--build a vertically adjustable shelf that hangs below the bed rails.

@Grossomotto those are the horizontally threaded (normal) nuts. I'm looking for something that the threads are vertical.slotted nut.jpg

Ok, I haven't seen those. You'll probably have to get them custom fab'd. Plus, you may have an issue with the slotted nut being loose in the rail since there's nothing to tighten the slot down.

The easier thing may use the standard t slot nuts and bolts and hang these things down from them, everything would be tight and a lot more secure.

@Grossomotto I'd thought about them being a bit loose horizontally but at first blush, not terribly concerned about that. If I ask my father-in-law to machine them, I'll give him specs that has the parts slightly larger on one wing of the tee and mount that side down. I'm not asking the shelf I'm looking to build to be weight bearing, just to hold some misc. bags--wife & I do a fair amount of biking and if her gear bags aren't set "just so", she can't reach them. Any rough roads and they fall over. Obviously I could just go the route of cutting some lumber to fit in the pockets but was hoping to go the bed rail route.

Sounds like you're on your way, I'm sure you'll get something rigged up.

There's also molle racks for the bed, a lot of members here use these and they can hold a lot of weight and gear.

I would consider using the regular t nuts, spacer and a bolt going through.

The way you drew it up, the assembly could slide down the rail, and turn on the up/down and front/back axis.

I would think a combination of both ideas would be ideal here. A traditional T-nut like the ones from Hondo garage above, and then some simple flat stock with a slot machined in the middle. Just large enough for the bolt.

Appropriate length bolt goes through the slot and into the T-nut, flat stock is free to slide up and down until tight, then nothing can move at all. No bouncing around at all, and should be able to hold a decent amount of weight

Go to a Leer or Snugtop dealer, I'm at work & can't get you a pic but that's how shells are attached on Tacomas

@SR-71A Over complicating things is a hobby. But what you & @Grossomotto suggested will probably be the easier route. Not to mention a fully slotted plate would add the perk of a single hand knob for both X & Y axis adjustments.

@Natetroknot That is exactly what I was looking for! That said, might go another route now that other ideas were presented.
