Thule is good gear but that's worth way more than my bike.

Is your tonneau a tri-fold? I have the RaceFace T2 and I fold my tonneau up to the last third and latch it down and the bikes fit.

I think Amazon has the Raceface in black if that helps.

I have the Thule T2 Classic. One day would like to invest in a Yakima Hangover.

It was my girlfriend’s purchase...not sure I would’ve had the gumption to get it, but now that we have it I can’t imagine anything else for our bikes. E-bikes are not cheap either, nor are they light. Ours probably weigh 40-45 lbs each, so having a sturdy hitch rack that you can roll or lift them up on is a must.

If I had an E-bike I would have a Yakima or Thule rack.

No you are good ... you mentioned that it was the factory one. The problem I have is that when I got my 2020 TRD OR I asked the dealer to install the tonneau. I assumed it was factor but it is not -- the dealer put an Extange tonneau on the truck. I wasn't that upset about it but now I am not just not sure how the factory one folds. Does it fold in half or does it fold in thirds?

One super easy way to test the fit is to open your tonneau as far as you can. Put a think moving blanket or something really thick draped over your tailgate and then put your bike over it (front tire hanging on the outside of the tailgate). The blanket will prevent you from scratching your truck and since you are not driving anywhere you should have no problems. That will tell you if there is enough room from the tonneau to the back tire. At least you will then know it fits.

Good luck with your decision. I agonized over this. Lots of good options but I went with the tailgate pad and love it -- as you know. But some of those swing out hitch mounts are pretty great options as well. If we rode the bikes a ton I might make that investment.

Good for you! And a great price, too. At that price you can try it for awhile and if you don't like it probably sell it and get half that backend upgrade to one of those hitch mounts with a swing (which I have to admit are pretty great, too).

Being in NY, I had never seen a tailgate pad here before. Saw a bunch of guys using them in the mountain bike forum here at Tacomaworld and figured it was worth a shot.

Look forward to hearing how you like it and how it works for you!

The EVOC is my favorite. You can fold the flap underneath it to still use the backup camera, it has straps for added security, although I rarely use them, and it's the least likely to damage the bike.

The material used by RaceFace is to abrasive it tears through paint, decals, etc, so I always ended up putting a rag between the bike and the pad.

Also the ones without slots, like Dakine are good when you have a bunch of bikes. When you only have one or two, they tend to flop around.

FYI, the version 2 of the RaceFace had different material and has fixed the problem. Look at this article:
    https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/topics/biking/best-tailgate-pad

The EVOC scored really well and the only complaint seems to be the graphics -- but that is a matter of taste and not quality. I ended up with the RaceFace and like it but the EVOC is far less expensive and also seems more popular too.

It’s a mountain bike. Toss it in the bed. It will love you for not treating it like a sissy ass road bike.

If your mountain bike it not all beat to crap after a few rides, you aren’t riding it correctly.

What are the chances of a 29er laying down and fitting in the bed with the front wheel attached? Smaller bikes fit in there easy, but not sure about a 29er.

My medium 27.5 doesn't fit. But to be fair, my wife's small 27.5 almost fits.

Thanks, I’m looking at picking up a large frame 29er, and it is hard to decipher from the manufacturer’s info if it will fit.
