    Last question for you guys:

    1. what size hose clamp do I need for the axles? I just need something to hold me over for the next time I rip my boots again. The zip tie method failed on my way back home lol

    2. any specific brand brake cleaner you guys recommend?

    I’m making an “emergency cv boot repair kit” for future tears and leaving it in my truck.

    Sounds like you may already have a path forward for keeping grease from slinging around from your front axle, but here is what I did that helped keep most of the inner CV axle grease in place for a couple months...

    I used several wraps of "Press n' Seal Plastic Wrap" around the boot and held it in place on either side of the tear with zip-ties. It kept the under side of my truck cleaner than it would have been otherwise, but it did start to leak after a few weeks.
    Ended up replacing the CV Axles several months after initially placing the plastic wrap, and it held up well enough to not have a huge mess on my hands.

    nice. Thanks for the picture. I used heavy duty cal trans trash bag and it ripped in half on my way back home. Didn’t last one hour.

    I’m waiting for my High angles CV boots and SDHQ boot covers to arrive this week. Ordered everything yesterday.

    People are writing how hard it is to use the clamps provided in the kits - why not just use a hose clamp ?

    FYI- CV joint will typically never seize. They don’t fail like that. The grease will never really be fully washed out, but all the grime that gets stuck in there will wear the individual ball bearings and cups, eventually causing the joint to make the infamous “clicking” noise...especially prevalent when turning.

    I’ve found non chlorinated be a little “weaker”, but the fumes are friendlier. Probably better for the environment.

    Safest for you or the truck?

    In that area your truck won’t know the difference, however your lungs might appreciate the non-chlorinated formula.

    No. Once I found out either works as good and is cheaper and evaporates residue free, I never bought another can of brake clean.
