That guy is a straight up bitch. Instead of backing away gasping and huffing and puffing like a frightened squirrel, next time get big and advance on the cougar. It wasn’t even a big cougar. I’ve seen far bigger from closer and they run like hell if you act dominant.

Dont even bother carrying my bear spray during rifle season but either rifle or bow, any cat does that to me = SSS

Buddy was glassing last bow season, heard a noise and stood up, one cat on one side of him and one on the other wayyyy too close for comfort.
I linked him the knock down a grizzly spray I carry.. hopefully he picked up a can.

    U know... i think so.
Same 1"mounts from the 80s when I first scoped up the old banner bdc.

Buddys buddy scored on some nice mature blacktails migrating out of the trinity alps on saturdays storm

@jungleman Reason I ask, my Dad recently passed down to me my Grandfather's old Remington Gamemaster 760 30-06. It has Weaver flip mounts which you can flip the scope over to use the open sights then flip the scope back into place. Very popular back in the day. Before my day.

I kind of remember those... I always wanted the "shoot thru" or watever they were called tall mounts that allowed you to use the iron sights for up close and personal shots but never got a set.

    Yeah they torqued right up.
Spec on the vortex is 1" mount.
Weaver has always been the best imo and all we ever used.

Figured this group would appreciate this. My Remington Woodsmaster 740 in 30-06 that my grandfather gave to me for a HS graduation gift (I'm 50 now). He bought it when he got out of the Navy after serving in WWII. Mid 50's I think. I'm guessing countless deer were taken by this before he gave it to me. I installed a scope (Redfield) when he gave it to me, but removed it a couple of years later as it just didn't seem right on there. Definitely not a gun I take to the range, but so much fun and enjoyment to hunt with. I've shot 4 deer and 2 moose with it, all with open sights. Real soft shooter and balls on at 100 yards (that's a long shot here in ME).

DeWayne I have two, both 30-06, one was my Dad's, one was my Grandfather's. Have not shot either since given to me but I have killed with my Dad's in the past. Both good for the follow up shot (two deer) because in Pa semis are not legal for firearm season.

My brother's and I have the same rules with the guns we got when my dad died. They stay in the family. My brother Kevin had a pipe wrench he didn't need. So I traded my dads 30-06 for it. I just gave my brother Brian my dad's 7.7 Jap. Wanted to make room in the gun safe.
