And it doesn't look like the typical rubbery undercoat.

It’s not rubberized at all, it’s almost identical to the factory frame paint used

    Yes
Is that the standard product that you use for chassis work or did kasnerd supply it as a special request ?

The only por15 undercoating I see is rubberized undercoat, got a P/N or something for it.

Hopefully better, since we all know the OEM stuff doesn't prevent rust. :annoyed:

@81Trekker I lost my power steering over the weekend, my rack finally bit the dust.

When you install the slide rack, do you have to pull the rack to install it? Or can I install a new rack now and then install the slide rack afterwards without doing too much of the same work twice?

As soon as it's available on your website, and I have the funds, I will be ordering!

My guess is you’ll want to pull it out for the extra room to cut and weld the frame to make clearance for the slide rack

Yes everything has to get pulled out as the rack needs to get modified for the slide rack to work... you trim off 1” of the casting as seen in the pic below

Are you sure it’s not your pump? In my experience it is rare that rack failure will cause you to lose hydro assist

I'm assuming I lost power steering because I lost all the fluid out of the rack seals. Could be the pump now too though. Haven't had time to fully diagnose yet.

If it’s aerating that’s a sure way to kill it. Did you hear a whine before you lost hydro assist? I would try some rack saver or seal sweller. Might hold you over till you get the JD fab parts and since you’re replacing it all you don’t have anything to lose. I can tell you that replacing the rack on a 4x4 with the engine in is not an enjoyable job. It’s a fuggin chore is what it is.

I can't leave anything well enough alone
I cut a small hole in the skid, right where my drain valve is on the oil pan, can reach fingers in and flip open the valve without removing the skid or getting oil on myself. I agree the skid is easy to remove, but I adapted it to my trans / transfer case skid so there are extra bolts there too. Doing the oil change without taking the skid off is nice IMO.
