    I've been using Mobil 1 engine oil and filters in my truck since new. The Mobil 1 filter I bought today was totally different from the ones I've used before. Both do have the same number M1C-251 though. Anyone else use Mobile 1 oil filters in their 3rd gen and notice the difference?

    Hmm interesting, the first one looks like the Toyota TRD Oil filter...

    [IMG]

    Second one like the regular Toyota filters...

    [IMG]

    No real difference in function...

    Maybe I'll have to price out the TRD filters and/or regular Toyota filters next time if I can't find any of the old style Mobil 1 filters. The old M1 filter was made in the US while the new one was made in South Korea.

    That part number must cover a number of different actual parts. Because the 3rd gen Tacoma oil filter is a separate filter element style whereas the 2nd gen filters are a cartridge style.

    Why are you using aftermarket filters?
    Toyota oil is $40 for 6L and filter is around $6. Aftermarket filters may ruin your engine, the amount of TFSI 2.0T I see blown because they use Fram, Mobil etc filters is damn high:bananadead:. Cost of OEM filters is low vs engine repair :)

    The OEM oil filter I got from Taylor came with a crush washer for the drain plug, I had no idea that was a thing.

    For oil and filter I agree just going with Toyota. But then again they're right next door to my work and I get a bit of a discount so it’s cheap enough for me. Plus they give you the crush washer :bananadance:

    I'll be sure to check out Toyota oil and filters next oil change. What kind of oil are you getting for $40 for 6l?

    I'm educating myself on this right now. After hearing @Canadian Joe talk about his setup it's definitely got my wheels turning. Question is, where to place the second battery and what battery tech to go with, I lean towards AGM.

    What are you thinking so far?

    if you want it in the engine bay, either 1 of 2 options;
    2 smaller ones that fit in the OEM battery location
    like this;splitbattery.jpg

    or 1 battery in the OEM spot, and another by the passenger side like this;
    (granted this works for the autos and i believe you need to relocate a booster of some sort in the other area for the manuals)
    2016-Toyota-Tacoma-Dual-Battery-System.jpg

    i've not looked into AGM, or anything else of that sort yet. I'm just planning on it conceptually without specifics

    So true, the difference between a MANN and Fram filters in a VW engine is huge.

    Yeah I'm in the same boat really, I'm many months away from pulling the trigger on this. Need to start looking into benefits of engine bay mount vs cab (or bed when i finally buy cap), minis vs full size etc.

    Directly from Toyota dealership, I get better rate since I work at the shop. But list price isn’t much more.
    Those are very picky engines, one wrong filter can blow it all!

    @Taruuk @Shveet

    What reason do you have for a 2nd battery? All the lights for around the campsite with the truck off? :popcorn:

    I have camped with my fridge running, for up to 3 days with out starting the truck. No problem, 1 battery.

    Any high drain device should be used with the truck running. Example Winch, compressor. If I am going to run my compressor I simply start the truck :notsure:

    I think its very specific reasons you need a 2nd battery.

    Andrew St Pierre White insists that you should only run a battery your alternator is designed to charge, and if you add a 2nd one, it should be exactly the same battery. He is the OG in setting up overland rigs, I believe what he says. He has an entire video on 2 battery setup.
