Metal Detecting discussions and finds

I asked a geologist friend of mine and Here’s what he said:

“Hard to say looks like glass or agate. Maybe a piece of green chert but don't know what the pale blue is. The green color can come from copper (which Arizona is loaded with). The layering in the green material can occur within banded chert. Looks like a pretty neat rock. But I have been fooled before by a piece of melted glass (which can occur during the smelting phase for metals). He may be correct that it is artificially created in slag from the smelting of copper ore or other metal. Looks neat. I have seen naturally occurring green chert that looked like the green rock but it was in the Roberts Creek Mountains in Nevada.”

 

Nice. Yeah i guess hes had an offer of $500 already. Even if it is foundary glass still would be rare

 

Dude, you can work that stuff into arrowheads! Tell your friend you just want a little piece and then pound it like this!

 

Yep thats what one guy wants it for! Im not paying $500 or more for that...lol

 

You could easily make more than that turning out Aztec style Tecpatl ceremonial blades with it!

This is the Keene Wonder Mine in DVNP. Just a couple shots inside and out - those pillars are all ore!

The outside of the main part of the mine

The aerial ore cart tramway to bring the ore to the bottom of the canyon. There was a gravity-powered stamp mill that the tramway cable powered at the bottom (it also acted as the tramway brake).
(the mine is near the top of the ridge)
