It's displayed correct from this angle but the pic/vid you posted the other day shows inside the gym it's wrong. Stars always go to the observer's left. I assume the observer in this case are the members inside the gym, not the people looking through the door.

The stars should be on the top left if hung vertically. Since it’s hung inside and not outside the building it’s the wrong way.

Did overhead medley today at 90-95% comp weight. Log and axle are flying up recently and my overhead pressing is really starting to take off. Now to get my deadlift up past 700lb and this January comp will be looking good for a solid finish.

    @weldertaco and @Travish325

You guys have had female strength coaches right? How do you enjoy them over male coaches?

Ahh. Ok. Thought you guys did.

My friend got me a coach for the remainder of my 50M training. The same coaching company has a female strength and conditioning coach with powerlifting experience who's become an ultra runner.

I honestly think I would prefer a female strength coach over a male.

I am curious, why would you prefer a female coach?

Ok, I am going to preface this by saying everything that's about ready to come out is sexist.

I really do not care to be some stellar lifter. If I could squat 225, bench 285, and Deadlift 405 that would be awesome. If I never lift a pound over that, fine by me. I think I would be less intimidated by a female coach and perhaps my lack of commitment to powerlifting as a primary sport would be more accepted.

I'm probably wrong on that, because there are a ton of bad ass impressive female lifters and I don't mean for how I put that to say anything else. I just see a lot of male coaches being huge and that's not what I'm going for. Like I would feel off being trained to DL by a guy who can DL 700lbs and my giant dreams are to DL 405. Like am I wasting their time?

I see more females being hybrid coaches for ultra/strength sports than I do men also.

That makes sense, I’m not going to a football coach to improve my strongman lifts.
I would think it comes down to communication with your potential coach before hiring. They should have a shitload of questions and inquiries about your goals. Let us know what you find.

Something that pisses me is when somebody that is jacked and or shredded starts “coaching” just because they have an audience who follows them just because they’re jacked or shredded, most of the time they’re the most uneducated bro who know nothing and are there just to make a buck.

And NASM certs are less legit than a crackerjack box pilot license.

Meh. The nutrition coach for several Mr Olympias, has never won one. The coach for the patriots, isn’t the quarterback, the workout coaches for strongmen, isn’t the worlds strongest man. Being able to coach is a different skill than being the athlete. I don’t care who trains me or what they can lift as long as they are a solid trainer.

If your goal is to bench more than you squat, I suggest looking on IG for a trainer. :D

I think what you are really looking for is a thoughtful trainer who actually knows something beyond 'bro-science' and who will listen and train to your stated goals. Sounds pretty simple, but I agree that they are not ubiquitous by any means...most are just charging for templates that they send everyone. I often think the best coaches are genetically unspectacular athletes...having to think and fight for progress seems to me to be more meaningful as a coach than having had everything come naturally.

Basically what I’m saying is I lift like a girl so I want to be coached by a girl.

My bestfriend bought me a coach for my 50M. I’d like to continue that into next year but I have to find a coach who values what I value. I like lifting and running. So many running coaches are inexperienced in and unsupportive of lifting routines. So you guys are right I have to interview to find that right person for me. Someone whis going to tailor my plans to me and not spit out a generic plan.

I also agree with you @mindstar on the unspectacular athlete part. Good coaches make good coaches because they do good coaching. Just because you are a great athlete doesn’t mean you make a good coach.

Jason Koop is revered as one of the best ultra coaches, he’s got elite times but he’s far from the best. But he’s coached the best.
