Since every GX I've seen recently for sale has been a northern car and the prices have gone up $4k since just a couple of months ago and since 4Runner prices seemed to have gone down somewhat, I bought a V8 4Runner.

Most I'm seeing are from NJ/NY/OH area...I don't want a rust bucket. I'm in no rush, I can wait on the right one to come along.

the ones I found that are clean, and in my budget, have a ton of miles, and who knows about maintenance...I figure I'm gonna immediately need to replace the timing belt/water pump/spark plugs...

I factored that in too. Then after buying, realized I needed front axles, wheel bearings and calipers. Luckily, parts prices aren't too bad. Most GXs in my price range had 180k-200k miles. That doesn't scare me with the 4.7 V8.

I could have waited. Maybe the market would have calmed down. Or maybe it would have gone up. So I made the best decision with the info I had to go on at the time.

It’s only going to go up. Overlanders are taking over.

Did a few wiring mods to the old girl. Disabled the TPMS system by grounding a wire, did the foglights anytime mod and wired up a more modern homelink rearview mirror.

I seriously lucked out finding mine.

I wanted a 4Runner Limited V8 but found the GX and the price was too stupid not to buy. I still prefer the looks of the T4R.

I had my parents buy mine for me in Florida and drive it out to Montana. They will remember that trip for the rest of their lives! They had snow, ice and wind once they got into South Dakota.

find a wrecked one? although it would probably end up being cheaper just to regear and throw in an ARB than the junkyard would charge for a whole rear axle and third member.
