I use a 6wt. I know full well not to grab above the cork. I figure there was some damage to the rod. I'm pretty rough on them, to be honest.

I enjoy using light tackle on the things. The challenge is more satisfying...and maybe more expensive.

Actually fishing for them now. Taking a sandwich break and saw the notification.

Sorry, wasn’t implying you grabbed above the cork. I guess I cheat, i use an 11.5’ 8 wt two handle spey rod.

good luck and enjoy your sandwich.

I’m headed out Thursday for 5 days, then again the Thursday after that for 4 days.

Beautiful fish. Out here the introduced Brooklies usually cause problems either stunting in high lakes and out competing the natives or interbreeding with the bull trout - an endangered species.

They even have numerous poison out projects to remove them from headwater lakes to try and protect the cutthroats.

    Are those illegal introductions?

We've had "bucket biologists" dumping bass in watersheds with native brook trout populations. Is some of the bigger lakes, Lake Trout (legal introductions) compete with the native brook trout.

Check Out the Native Fish Coalition. They do a lot of good work. I have personally gone and hung a bunch of their signs in remote areas of Maine. You aren't goin to change peoples minds who poach and have that fill the cooler attitude. But sometimes a little education goes a long way.
