Shellshock's DIY inflator / deflator

Oh no, it was where the inflator hose connects to the gauge, where I was gonna put a quick connect.
The company was really good about sending out a new one.

Yeah. I see the red schmoo there. Just enough heat that it is hot to touch but not burn you would be enough to soften it.

It is pretty cool in my book. Smooth clamps with nothing to catch on.

 

@tonered - any pictures of how you connect it to your gauge? I assume you modified the hose? I need to make that presta pigtail also.

 

It is not 100% clear in my previous pics, but my gauge has a 20in hose (black) with NPT thread on the inlet and outlet. Here are some zoomed views as they are the best that I have for now:




All that I needed to do was swap the brass chuck for a female connector:


If you want a better pic of that gauge, I can do that later.

For the presta pigtail, the chuck from my hand pump fit the HF hose perfectly:

I get bummed with vehicles that don't get good mod support.
I get too excited with vehicles that get great mod support.

 

Heat should help there (on the new one). Do you happen know what size those threads are? I know I'll need an adapter similar to the one below, but I'm not sure of the size.

I went on the other side of the spectrum with mods. But these little mods can sometime be just as important. The shellshock inflator works great with the ARB Twin. The other day one of the kids at work said he was gonna buy a Taco.
I talked him down, told him taco with a few mods is hella capable.

He'll end up screwed like the rest of us when he joins TW. but hey. I tried.

 

Most all are 1/4 NPT.

You at least tried. But it is very contagious, esp these days with the midsize market booming.

 

The lower one is 1/4, but the upper one is smaller. At least on mine (different brand than this, but the body look the same).

 

Ah! That could be 1/8 NPT. Best to crack out the calipers.

 

Just a hair under 13/32 on my old timey analog calipers. So yeah, looks like 1/8 NPT.
