Toyota's website is kinda funky, it only let's you configure by what is currently available in inventory. Give it a little time and you should start seeing it on the Off Road too. If you were looking for a 4 cylinder MT that configuration was cancelled after 2017.

Perhaps one reason the MT is fading is that it requires the driver to pay attention and do something.

My observation of late is that may drivers would rather pay attention to their phone than the vehicle they are driving. I imagine it’s harder to text if you have to shift gears.

I read a news story earlier this year about parents making their kids learn to drive a MT specifically to keep them from distracted driving habits.

When I got my new '16, the manual was $2,000 cheaper.

So much harder. And you can just forget about simultaneous eating/texting/driving altogether.

Based on the above insurance companies should charge much less for an MT.

If you cant eat a sandwich and drive a manual, you need to get better at driving. It’s not that hard to drive a manual single handed.

I use ApplePlay with Amazon Music and I’m able to select Albums, individual songs, and sort options. I have not used an iPod for over 10 years so I wouldn’t be able to comment on that.

An experienced diver can do many things while driving a MT on an open road. Surfaces streets or slow and go traffic not so much.

Bummer, because a manual 4 cyl tacoma is a pretty classic configuration in my book.

This thread made me play around with the build tool on Toyota's website and see how they are funneling buyers into the V6 TRD trims. To me the 4x4 DC SR5 looks like a pretty good deal for someone who is going to add a lift, tires and aftermarket skids off the lot. Besides the locker, what would a TRD OR have over an SR5 with some upgrades?

I can switch songs freely using the steering wheel controls or the controls on the stereo. The only thing related to the radio which seems to change when the truck is in-motion is the cover art goes away. This is playing via BT; I’ve not used Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Not many manufacturers are not even offering MTs anymore. The Frontier even dropped theirs.

So you have the Jeep, The Bronco (maybe) and the Tacoma.

It's not long until MTs will be a thing of the past. Nobody wants them - most folks, especially younger kids today aren't really into driving, let alone driving an MT.

I mean I'd like to think I'm more of an "enthusiast" than the typical person, and there still aren't many vehicles I'd buy at the moment that I'd buy new in manual. Eventually they will become a thing of the past in both sports cars and trucks.

I’m proud to be in the minority :) I chose a MT for the following reasons:
    1) I like that (for whatever reason) they’re rare.
    2) My Taco is primarily for pleasure/off-roading, which I’ve only ever done with a MT.
    3) It makes routine driving more fun.
    4) It limits the pool of friends and neighbors who will ask to use my truck
    5) I don’t like that the auto trans doesn’t have a dipstick. Same reason I passed on a new 3 Series BMW a couple of years ago.

Full-disclosure, my Taco is not my DD and I do have other trucks with autos. Also I wish reverse gear was lower as trying to back up a slight incline on a low-traction surface with a trailer or a load in the bed is stupid hard.

Is an MT for everyone? Nope, and I like it that way

I just read something about the MT returning to the new Frontier, sounds like they didn't want to mess around with it during the final year of the old one with the new engine.

If I have no idea, then why was I told my truck washes desirable because it has a slushbox?
