What are the differences in the work truck extended cab tacoma and the extended cab prerunner? not talking about the trd packages, just the regular setup. I cant seem to see anything except the black grill and bumper and the side fenders

i believe the prerunner has the 6 lug suspension while the work truck has the 5 lug. the 6 lug is used by the 4x4 models and the prerunner uses the exact same suspension minus the front differential and transfer case.

the 5 lug suspension is all but non-upgradeable as 90% of tacomas use the 6 lug so all pieces are built for that (im a 5 lug owner).

i could be wrong (may be thinking of tundra) but the work truck version may have rubber floors and vinyl seats and manual windows and such

the pre-runner package is two wheel drive on the 4x4 platform. the work truck or base model has the black bumpers, grille, etc. also they had roll windows until 2010. now even the base model has power windows. the sr5 package adds the auto mirror with backup camera, power locks, keyless entry, tinted rear windows, cc, steering wheel audio controls, color matched bumper/fenders, chrome bumper and im sure some other stuff im forgetting. you can get either one base or sr5 in 4x4 or pre-runner.

pre-runners are 6 lug, only the two wheel drive non prerunner (the ones real low to the ground) are 5 lug.

im new to the truck stuff, i race motocross and going to start getting into this. What is the difference between the 5 lug and 6 lug? How does it determine the different stance of both trucks?

Lugs just mean lug nuts. One has 5 one has 6. But the suspension setup between the two are entire different. You cannot put 6 lug stuff on a 5 lug.

ohh, i see. Thanks for explaining. That other tacoma must have had a custom built lt to fit it. Looks like ill just have to settle with the prerunner and leave it stock for a bit.

They make LT kits for 6 lugs and 5 lugs. So either way. Plus if your going to be around tracks and dirt a lot you might as well get a prerunner. They look better too.
