I was visiting little bro and fixing up stuff and building a fence at their house, I actually wanted to get him a new set of tires and get his truck detailed for him- then this happened. Such a bummer. I'm on the search to buy him a newer truck at this point and cut losses on this one.

However as @YotaProject said, maybe not a hard job [yep, got all the tools!] if I can get a good deal on parts. Thanks all

It does suck man, sorry for the loss on that. It would be close to a total loss if you attempted to go through insurance on that one.

Just replace the outer door skin and the bedside - try to salvage the door frame and if worst comes to worst cut a part out of a wrecked vehicle and weld it in.

Haven worked in the insurance industry, the insurance hit will be taken by the vehicle owner, and only if the cost is above what he is covered, will it hit the guest driver. This is why you should never lend a vehicle to someone else not on the insurance policy.

What's the point of paying insurance premiums if you don't plan on using it for mishaps as severe as this? Its not like it can be repaired with meguires ultimate polishing compound. Possibly having your brothers insurance premiums go up vs a half ass DIY repair that will be costly out of pocket is a no brainer to me. Fix it right and don't assume your brother would be cool with going the cheap route. Always treat borrowing vehicles from family like you are renting it from a business. Just pay your brother the difference in premium increase if thats what you are worried about.
