What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Edit: Did a much closer inspection of seatbelts, and there is not quite enough space to reverse them. It might be possible if you took a BFH to the area, but even that might not work. I'm off to junkyard to see if they might have a decent driver side.

 

Its just residual dust from a rust bomb... I drove over one of the big ones... The shrapnel put holes in my frame too... Few cans of Rustoleum and you're back in the game! lol

 

Put on my plates and drove it to work on my lunch hour. Headed in for an oil change and found that it has three exhaust leaks, both CV axles are blown out, both valve covers are leaking, transaxle output shaft seal is leaking, I have a couple lights that have water in them so won’t pass inspection, and a possible power steering leak but we can’t tell what it is because of all the axle grease, motor oil, and gear oil all over the damned place. But my clutch is great and my brakes are all very recent. Thankfully I work at a dealership where I can get the work done very cheap and the parts very cheap as well. Also found out my frame had been repaired in the past. Looks really good- someone does nice work.

I've been looking for a set of grey BMW seats, ever since I installed the BMW seats in my son's T4R... but FREE was too good of a price to pass up on a black set.

 

No luck on seat belts, but did score a good washer tank and fill tube. My tube had virtually disintegrated, and I had patched with fiberglass mat, but recently started leaking again when filling. This one seems to have a much different type of plastic for the tube.

 

Replacing the fuel tank, front and rear suspension, front OTRs, cleaning up and applying fluid film on the frame, checking fluids, changing the oil.
Here’s a testament to Fluid Film. Applied before each of the last 4 northeast winters. Wiped off the dirt to take a couple pictures:

 

Wife and I started our road trip home from MT to SC yesterday.

Quickly realized a few things:

1. Damn near dead set on a diesel swap.

2. 5100s don’t fit the use of the truck anymore. Undecided on the J59s.

3. Sound deadening is now a requirement.

4. The seats definitely need to be reupholstered with new cushion.

5. Tundra brakes are a must.

 

1. Meh... A lot can be done with gas motors (boost applications, LS swaps, other swaps)

2. Fuck 5100's...

3. Sure. I haven't noticed the need, but understand those that do.

4. Stock seats do well for me for now, but again, my GX470 has made me realize the shortcomings of the stock Taco seats.

5. I'm still stock (lift, tires etc), but still haven't seen the need for this. I've scaled out at over 5k lbs and still haven't been disappointed. Would the 13WL upgrade be a benefit? Sure, but a "must"? Still not sold.

YMMV and to each their own...

 

Replaced my lower ball joints (Moog Sankei 555 greasable), lower control arm bushings (Whiteline), and steering rack bushings (Energy Suspension). Still have to tackle CV boots, needle bearing, and outer tie rods.

 

Lol, the first few pages of this thread are a hoot, lots of maglight bracket installs, when gps was new, and cd players.

I raised the rear of my seat a little over an inch, I realized that was why my elbow always hurt when I put it on the armrest, my ass was just too low. I think that's going to solve some of my other seat issues too

Got a P0031 code (HO2S B1S1 Heater Circuit Low) - can someone confirm the sensor I need is the upstream air fuel sensor,

$146 denso 234-9001 upstream air fuel ratio oxygen sensor with 10.6” 4-wire harness, for auto trans equipped vehicles

denso 234-9001? Amazon says it doesn’t fit my truck so want to be sure before I order.

Also do I need any tools besides rust blaster to change it? I assume it’s a straightforward replacement.

2.what did you expect from one of the cheapest options for a lift.
3. I really want to do sound dampening too, I think it will make it a lot nicer to ride in.
4. I would consider a whole new seat. Toyota did a horrible job on these seats. I put Scion TC seats in, night and day better. If I had extra cash I would have went corbeau(just didn’t want to drop $1000 at the time)

4. I've done this. It's a bitch. New seat cushions from Toyota fit best but are not cheap. And again, it's a bitch. I will be TC seat swap next time.

New 4.56 gears. Truck drives much smoother now. Should have done this years ago.

 

I used some parts from a junked ninja 500, the spacer is easy, just cut a piece of tubing to length. The bolt threads are 10 x 1.25. I might make a clamp to replace the zipties sometime but I wanted to see if I liked it over time. I think I will tho. I like the sitting up straighter too

 

I have 4.88's on the way from ECGS

 

I have 4.88’s too, about a year and a half now. I like them, but there are times I wish I would’ve jumped for the 5.29s instead.

 

On what size tires? Do you do a lot of crawling?
I stuck with 4.56 to keep my engine/tire speed ratio closer to stock for better highway and towing mileage. I mainly explore well-trodden trails and fire roads, nothin too crazy
