You presented the information well. Concise.

Regarding the myths and misinformation, I see it every time someone talks about gasoline and additives.

To back this guy up. I have treated my 2017 as a hybrid manual for the entire 170,000 miles that are on it, meaning, turn on the ECT and use the shift side of the gear selector. You're a truck. You will never rocket off the line without some major engine work. What you will do, if you play in the 4k rpm range and up is not only surprise yourself, but others as well. Once you're in that 4k to limiter range these things are happy and they let you know it. As for the guy that can't bring himself to buy the 3.5 after owning the 4.0, umm.. the only difference is substantially more hp in the 3.5, about 40 more. After about 35mph that 3.5 runs away from a 4.0. I've had several Tacos with the 4.0 and now one of my favorite things to do is toy with them on the freeway. To put this into perspective. The Tacoma's 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 makes 236 hp and only one more pound of torque at 266 lb-ft. Best mileage I could ever muster was about 14 mpg. Or you can have 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque with an mpg of 19 city / 24 highway. Using fuel flow over miles I'm getting 24mpg. You will find people, even on this forum, that will insist the Tacoma engine and the Lexus engine are different and that is simply wrong. The difference is in the tuning with the 2GR-FKS (same engine) in Lexus is specified at 311 hp. The LS 350 Lexus takes it to 318.

Next time you're getting ready to pass, down shift, bring the rpm to about 4500, and let her rip. Just remember to get in the next shift before the limiter, if you have time. Look. Toyota went for mpg to satisfy dudes with beards and no clue how to change a tire. You need to dictate to the truck how you want it to behave. Use the engine the way the 2GR-FKS was meant to be used, high rpm. Now for the LS-430. The lightest LS-430 starts life already 300 pounds heaver that the heaviest 3rd gen Tacoma.

I have an auto, I mash the gas peddle, she downshifts and holds till redline to shift itself each gear because I keep it to the floor until my rear bumper is by the front, guess I should try the manual shift next time see if it makes a difference...good advice, I'll have to get to know it a little more first ;) And more on the ls...power/weight and redline are close but for some reason it just got up there faster, maybe being a v8 the torque curve is more flat? I haven't compared the two curves though, not sure there's even a stock graph for each engine. beats me...

Hell I should be honest with myself in that I'm going off butt dyno and that brand isn't known for statistical reliability XD Most folks say they stink actually X'D

Three things... aerodynamic drag, unsprung mass and coefficient of friction of your tires.

There are a lot of things that would combine, starting with the simple fact that it is a car. Really though, try getting aggressive with the Tacoma and you may be pleasantly surprised. I will point out though that the vvti is not very linear. It will give a little hiccup as you cross through about 3500. I say it's to allow the kid on the 350z enough time to decide if he really is getting enough hp to the ground to take a truck.

According to the gurus around here, you're wasting your money. 93 won't make a pinch of hen piss of a difference since the engine was calibrated for regular fuel ;)
