I will start with I am not running these. However I had a few questions for Toyo about why no C-Load in 16". There response was thru testing the testers did not feel there was a noticeable difference in ride quality between a C and E load. They did not state what vehicles were used for testing. Then I replied back asking about the 17" but I did not receive a response. But one thing to point out there is only 1lb difference in weight between the C and E load rating in that size both being BSW sidewall. So why is there a C in 17"? I would also like to see how both load ratings work at low pressures 10-15psi.

Hey, new to the forum. I saw this was briefly talked about earlier but is there a major difference in ride quality between the SL and LT? I like the aggressive look on the LT but rarely go off road or tow, want to get y'alls opinion before buying.

Anyone have any experience with the Falkens and done a comparison?

Currently running the Falken At3w but will need replacement soon. Considering this due to the lighter weight for slightly less power loss/better mpg but not if rain performance or other aspects are compromised, Falkens are great lol

Finally got mine today (5), they're 265/70/17 E Load (USA made version). Also replaced my OEM wheels with 4Runner Pros (SEMA).

Only have about 15-20 miles on them but their first impression is a good one.
Feels more "planted" than the OEM tires. Road noise below 45 mph is not bad, but louder than stock. In the 55-75mph range it does get get quite noticeable, but keep in mind these are the E loads, and it isn't anything a slight turn on the radio knob cant fix.

There is a more aggressive side, the DOT side has a line through one of the side lugs that the other side does not (circled in red below). Also in post #23 there is a video that shows the difference as well.

The extra weight is noticeable but not bad. Not sure what the weight of the wheels were but these tires are about 12# heavy than the stock ones. Hopefully this weekend I can weigh the wheel/tire combos and see how much weight I added in total.

If it's not too much trouble, can you do the quarter comparison and post a picture? Consistent with the others and very close to my tires size, looks like thicker sidewall lugs.

My tire shop called me last week and said after speaking with his Toyo rep, he was told there is no difference in Jap vs USA made. He's trying to get a hold of a USA one so that we can compare. But that information contradicts this thread.

Also to update the thread, I have not yet received a response from Toyo.

It's dark out now and raining all day tomorrow, but I'll try to get a pic over the weekend and post it up for you.
After seeing your earlier posts I specifically asked for the USA made version when I contacted Discount Tire to order them, they said there wasn't a different SKU # that they could see to specify one or the other. They told me that if they weren't the USA made ones all I would be out is the $25 deposit if I didn't want them, luckily they were the correct ones.

Are you past the 500 miles or 45 trial period from Toyo? https://www.toyotires.com/product/open-country-at3#Warranty

Thanks! I've barely been driving, I don't think I've even put 100 on them yet.

Can already tell those are USA made. Will be interesting to see if they are the same depth as the other USA made...

@jholc21 You posted a pic a few pages back that looks like the mounted height on the 255/80R17 is around 32 inches. Any chance you can check the actual tread width? I'd like to compare to my current tire and see if I can fit that size with out any issues. If they're actually 32 instead of the listed 33 then I should be fine, just want to double check.

That 255/70R17 will be about the same height at your current ones, just skinnier. The 255/80r17 will be a good bit taller.

Sorry, ment 80, 255/80/17. They're listed as 33 inches but theres a pic with a tape measure on page 28 showing 32 inches for that size.

Just put 400 miles on my 265/75r16’s (SL) headed from Missoula to central Washington. Left Missoula in a massive rainstorm that lasted up and over two mountain passes. These tires were fantastic in the standing water at 70+ mph. They sliced right through the water with no hydroplaning at all.
Overall the tires road really well and are relatively quiet. Super happy with them.

Well, hmmm...I had to think about that but most recently I’ve had Mastercraft Courser MX somethings on my Jeep JK. They looked killer but sucked in the snow and rain. Probably the beefy tread didn’t help.
We run Cooper Grand Touring on my wife’s Subaru Outback and those do great in the snow and rain.
We’ve got Coopers on our daughters ‘07 RAV4 and they are awesome also, just don’t know what type :)
We run our tires year round in Montana, no snow tires so we usually go for something that can handle pretty much anything that gets thrown at us.
If I had to say, without having a full four seasons on the Toyo’s I’d say they’re pretty great just based on how they performed this past Saturday. The true test will be this winter.

I just got off the phone with my tire shop and he is saying that his rep is telling him that for my size LT265/75R16, there is no difference in Japan vs. USA made tires. He was trying to find a single USA made tire to have sent to the shop so we can compare but hes saying his distributor has looked through all their tires and they are all Japan made.

Toyo has not contacted me back either.

I don't think there is a picture here with a quarter with my specific size. Can anyone help? I need some direct evidence with my size for him to kick it back to Toyo.

Do you have USA or Japan made? If USA, would you mind posting a picture using the quarter? Would be much appreciated.

They are 33 inch tires when not mounted but once mounted on a wheel and loaded on truck these measure around 32”. Tread width appears to be around 8 inches. I’ve had 265/75/R16 before. These are definitely taller.
