@kairo’s guest house having a water with @not_nick
    Under development
This won’t help, but I’ve heard a 265/70 17 doesn’t rub but a 265/75 17 will. And your overall would be right between the 2 I think

But seriously, It wouldn’t rub much of it Does, and will be easy to mitigate

Yes. They are very to the same size. It’s just takes too much typing to include both the r16 and the r17 tall skinny 33 size.

Haha. I meant that lift doesn’t matter so stop worrying about it. I do have 2” in the front and rear last time I measured, but I don’t rub until hitting the bump stops or thereabouts and only when turning. A stock truck and my truck are close to identical when hitting the bump stops. I say close because I also have SPC UCAs that change my geometry a bit.

From all I’ve read on this forum, 255’s reliably don’t cause fitment issues and 285’s are really hit or miss depending on how carefully you drive your truck, how much rubbing you can tolerate, and other factors. People report problems with 285’s regardless of a 2-3” lift.

I will admit though, if you are willing to drive your truck carefully enough to not use the full suspension travel Toyota gave it and/or you have a high tolerance for rubbing, a lift might help you be happy with your big tires. I personally do not drive my truck carefully or have a high tolerance for rubbing, so I will stick with my tall skinnies.

Or you do CMC and pinch weld. Also how did 285’s get brought into this, he’s asking about 255’s?

This dude is all over the place. Ive attempted to reply more than i have but he keeps rambling about things.

He says lifts dont help fit bigger tires and that you dont need a lift to fit 255's.

But then goes on to say he is lifted b/c he doesnt want his 255's to rub?

    :duh:

I should start a myth debunking debunking thread for some of these. Especially since almost all of them are blanket statements and don't apply to all applications.

On topic with this response and this will be a little more technical than throwing around information with a I know mentality. Based on the offset of the new wheels I am guessing you went with an OE wheel???

Your 2" level will be just fine to fit those tires you may have a slight rub (each truck is different) turned full lock in reverse on some of the plastics. But I know a few guys that have ran that size tire no lift or level they just trimmed the plastics.

The biggest thing that will affect tire rubbing is rim width and offset(backspacing). The further you push the assembly away from the body 0 to - offsets the more arc it runs when steering and can potentially rub.

So now lets address the rim width part we'll keep this simple so you can understand the math involved here. 2 wheels 0 offset one is 7" wide the other is 8". The 8" wide wheel has .5" more sticking out away from the body thus increasing that arc I was talking about in the offset part. Now to set them so they are pretty close to the same arc you'd get a +12 offset 8" wheel which would be the same amount of wheel from mounting surface to outside face as the 7" wide at 0 offset.

You already decided to go the skinny tire route which is good for the same reasons that apply to the wheels as there is just a lot wider mass that is needed to clear.

Adding a lift at static and normal street driving does help you clear bigger tires. It is true under full compression at certain angles the tires are turned you may run into clearance issues, again I know some guys that ran that tire stock and didn't really rub at full stuff.

That's a little more in depth answer than you've been getting. If you have any other questions I'd be glad to answer them and actually show you with calculations. Again I'm going to reiterate that every truck is different and some will rub and some won't, but with what you have you should be minimal. Go for it if you want to it's your truck and you know how you are going to use it and what you want out of it.

thanks to all.... some of you guys made me laugh...it's simple for me before I spend $800 plus dollars on new tires I want to make sure that's all.... spent enough money on upgrades, lifts, new alloy wheels on the way. before I swap out the tires also.... once again thanks for all...
