I just bought a $17, 1 5/16” socket to knock out a bearing that I will likely never use again unless a guy driving a Caterpiller D9 just happens to break down right in front of my house...

Thank you so much Natetroknot. And yeah LMAF, I need all the cushion I can get :) Drive it for another couple hundred miles see if it smooths out. If not I'll check out your suggestion of Bilstein in the front. This might be obvious but I'll ask anyway, if/when change to Bilstein up from then I must eventually change back to same as well?

That's kind of a matter of opinion. I'm in the camp that they don't need to match, driven plenty of rigs with mismatched shocks, but it depends on what kind of girl you are. Can you wear 2 different kinds of socks?

If you rummage around the marketplace here, you’re gonna find as much or as little suspension as you want/need for not a lot of coin and some folks who will guide you and answer questions.

(a lot of people ‘upgrade’ early and basically give their like new factory parts away for pennies on the dollar.)

Toyotas have great ‘interchangeability’ year to year.

    research more, buy less.

I also have a problem with buying tools I'll never use again, but then again I can always help out a friend.

OP, if the ride was fine prior to this new setup, I highly suspect that the cheap monroe shocks along with the poor technical skills or limitations of the tire shop to be the culprit. My suggestion is to swap the Monroes for new Bilsteins along with rebalancing the tires with a shop(Firestone) that offers road force balancing. Those tires are not the issue and are less aggressive than your old ones.

the really funny part is that it was my grandfather’s wheelbarrow axle bolt (circa 1920) that carried the day today and finished the job.

I didn't know this before I got married, probably should have, but I had to learn and teach my wife is that men and anyone in business generally will take advantage and make things more difficult for women.
For example floisting extra fixes that don't need done by the dealer when dealing with warranty and other scams.
You really have to careful as a lady and never assume shops and other professional stores will give the straight view. My wife spends 3 hours dealer with the cable company, when I yell at em and get it done in five minutes.

Not being sexist, but man people can be jerks to ladies. Not saying this is the case this time, but just something to think about.:annoyed:

If some kid buys a cold fusion, twin ion, AI jet pack that needs a coal miner’s wrench...

Op... sometimes you can get “take offs” which be cheaper and install with out disassembling the spring from the shock.... if you’re going to wait anyway, maybe you could find a set in the mean time...

Had Monroe shocks on a 3rd gen 4Runner with D Rated tires and that thing road like a canvas wagon on caveman carved stone wheels even compared to the 12 year old worn out stock suspension. Was a totally shit ride. As soon as I put some passenger tires on it was thousand times better. Wasn’t an off-road utilized vehicle though so LT or C/D/E wasn’t needed. If it was I’d have swapped the suspension back out.

OP, Where in FL do you live if you don't mind me asking? Myself and a lot of others around Florida are on TW. If you're close enough to me I can take a look at your truck or I know a few reputable members that can take a look or if you want a shop I have a shop recommendation for you. There's also the florida classifieds thread on here that occasionally has close to new oem suspension components pop up

JdevTac, in reading your reply, I now have an E tire with not enough shock. Either trade out the tire, save the shocks OR keep the tire, replace the shock. Right now it's riding like a tractor on speed.

    Monroe shocks are junk.

E range and mud terrain tires ride like shit compared to all terrain tires.

My ko2’s in E rated ride fine at 32psi.... seeing weather is getting colder, they probably around 30psi now.... you know you’re gonna replace the shocks again... keep them tires
