I park my car in the garage and each morning when I start the car the auto lights cause the headlight to turn on. I’ve noticed every day this week that when I exit the garage and move the truck into daylight, the auto lights do not turn off the headlights until I get to work and turn the truck off. I noticed that if I momentarily flip the lights from auto to off, it turns the headlights off and then they stay off (as they should) once I flip it back to auto. The auto lights come on just fine in the evening when it gets dark.

I have a 2020 trd pro. I’ve seen other posts using search where people have similar issues, but I haven’t found any solutions. It isn’t a big deal, just an annoyance.

That doesn’t sound wrong since they work on a threshold, and that is different depending on switching from on to off and off to on. Simply test with a flashlight over the censor when you get out of the garage, and a piece of card over the sensor when to test the off to auto in dim daylight. I also seem to remember being able the change that threshold through the settings on the headunit, but I could have that wrong.

The sun angle has changed. That means more shadows until the leaves drop.
That caused the headlights to be on for my last morning trip.
I adjusted the sensitivity after I got home. Done through the display.

The angle of the sun has changed due to the time of year. Mine does the same thing despite it seeming to be perfectly light out. You can change the sensitivity in the head unit though.

I had a similar problem. Turns out my wife left her hat on the passenger side dash covering the sensor for the auto lights. This was making the truck think it was dark all the time and thus keeping the auto lights on. Once I removed the hat the auto lights worked as they should.

I believe this is what I was seeing. My route to work in the morning is fairly shaded and heading away from the sun. Now that daylight savings has kicked in the mornings are brighter and lights go off sooner.

Just leave your headlights (and tail lights) on!

Or you can disconnect the sensor and not worry about your lights coming on automatically, but keep your DRLs. And when you're ready to turn your lights on, you do it manually.

    That's what I did.

I just turn my lights on and off by hand, it’s really easy

Make sure nothing is covering the ambient light sensor! Same thing happened in my wifes car, noticed it wasn't adjusting to daytime and realized she had her highway I-Pass sitting on top of the sensor.

Just wanna say thanks as this helped me this morning when I was getting frustrated with the auto lights not shutting off. Was cleaning the dash yesterday and my turnpike transmitter was over the sensor hah
