I have the same feelings about my 4.88s. I’m on 295/70/17s.

Wired some lights to the shell and bed. I used the extra carpet liner I had leftover to cover my anti fatigue mats.

I have what the door sticker says is stock, 265/75 16 tires. I pull a trailer a lot and on a recent trip to UT I decided that a 20% difference would be ok both ways and 4.88 is just about that from stock 4.10. As it is I manually shift down into 2nd at 60mph to not drop below the power range so that would get me at least below 50 before I have to downshift. 5.29 would be @30% from stock, seemed to much without larger tires,

Started the day to do inner and outer tie rod ends. Found a newly leaking CV, so picked up my free replacement from Autozone, and installed that too. Now off for an alignment ASAP. Six hours start to finish, with trip to Autozone, and time out for quick dinner. Not bad for an old fart. But I am about whipped now!

As much as it pains me to say, I haven’t wheeled it AT ALL since I installed the 4.88’s.... and that was in the first quarter of 2019. I have 285/75/16s, Falken Wildpeak MT. I’d probably be okay with the 4.88s if I had a manual transmission. The Auto trans really drags it down.

Seems a lot of manual trucks go 4.56 with 33s. That's what I went with and am happy I did, 4.88s would be nice in trails but the rpm would be way high on the freeway.

the auto trans is such an old dog though. I eventually just accepted it for what it is, and... figured the best way to combat that is to get a supercharger.

I went with 4:88's with my 3.4L 5-speed and I use it as a commuter for a 90 mile round trip for work. It does great on the highway and the trails. The installer tried to talk me into 5:29's, I'm glad I didn't for a daily driver.

Yeah people don't talk about the RPM differences enough between the auto and manuals. If you plan to take your truck up to 70mph still... Throw everything in a gear ratio calculator and make sure.

Took ten hours to get from San Francisco, CA to Reno, NV. My dumbass picked rush hour to leave the Bay Area.

Your wip is looking good. I’ll be passing through that area this weekend maybe I’ll see ya. It always trips me out when I’m out of state and I see someone from TW on the road.
