Just curious after running my key for six months and was wondering about redoing it to active. Personally never heard a full active system... at least I don’t think I have.

That being said installing a key in my buddies 19 Tacoma this weekend. He has the typical kicker components in place of stock with drop in kicker Subaru tweets. Thinking of going active and leaving the rears for fill. Thoughts?

edit: same buddy I did the Audison install so yes there is a sub if that matters.

Probably not worth it if you’re running the Kicker CS, or any of the drop-in stuff like the Subaru tweeters.

If you’re running true components, it could be worth it if you don’t care about your rear fill. It’s not a hard swap, just needs a little extra wiring and a cheap connector for the tweeter plugs. Then of course some modification of the t-harness

Thanks. That’s kinda what I felt but wanted to check my math. It’s extra work and didn’t know if it was worth the extra wire runs.

If you are running mid to higher end components, I think it could be worth it for some people. I personally love my rear fill, and I don’t think my Kicker KS speakers are worth running active.
I may decide to just throw some cash into it some day and go 3-way active up front and more subwoofer power, but that’s just money I would rather spend on lots of other stuff honestly.

Was the key amp a plug and play or did it require modifications?
