The dealers shop insurance should pay for this 100%. Is this Toyota of Plano? On another note...this is why I do all of my general maintenance in my own garage. Same for my motorcycle.

They broke it, they fix it, to YOUR satisfaction. Call the local news if they don’t treat you right.

We had a garage door come down on a guys 4Runner. We were responsible and took car of it. That’s why dealerships have insurance. They are % at fault. No reason to go back and forth.

    ditto

why play nice when clearly the dealer is at fault

    no less deliberately undercutting U

they can fix it RIGHT far cheaper than paying a claim

Plus their body shop gets some experience

So much wrong with how this situation has been handled up to this point, and some of the advice/responses you're getting are absolutely terrible.

Their fault, their employee, their facility. Dont call your insurance for Chrissake.

If you have to make a single phone call, it should be for legal advice/representation because they are fleecing you and arent making the situation right.

Even if the dealer offered to pay my deductible I wouldn't call my agent to file a claim on my policy. That's ridiculous.

this looks to be the best advice on this post, if you would seriously consider purchasing a new Tacoma or Tundra. Have a polite discussion with the dealership GM.

It's no different than any other accident. Call the police, take a report, their insurance pays for it, done. Doesn't matter if they fix it or someone else.

Nothing to add on repairs but if an owner is physically able to do simple maintenance, I just don't get not doing oil changes yourself. I declined a free yr of oil changes on my wife's car when we bought it cause I can have it done faster than the drive to the dealer. Same for the Tacoma.

The police won’t do anything. It happened on private property. They’ll say, “It’s a civil matter”.

It’s a tough call on who you have fix it. If the dealer fixes it, they can cut corners to save money and fix it just good enough that you won’t notice where they cut corners. Then if the paint fails in 2 years, you’re SOL.

The ideal thing would be that you take it to the body shop of your choice and they pay the bill. However if they weasel out and don’t pay the bill, you’re not getting your truck back.

I had a similar situation. Called my insurance to deal with it. My people talked sense into their people and I got my vehicle paid for. Much less hassle than dealing with lawyers if it works.

Replaced brake bulbs with flashing LED type. Replaced horn with one from a Ford F-150
How does something like this happen? This is the sort of junk that drives me crazy! And it's because of stuff like this that makes me want to do all my own maintenance. A friend of mine took her car in for an oil change and they overfilled it which caused the engine to blow two blocks from the dealership, and yes, they replaced the engine free of charge. Is it just me or are people becoming so inattentive/uncaring that stupid mistakes are the norm these days?

Unless that dealer has a premier body shop on site, I would just call my insurance agent and have it towed to a body shop of your choosing and let them handle it.

Yeah that's true if you're calling them to work as a liaison but a small retainer to a law office for a letter or phone call goes further. And the place is negligent, twice. Did the damage then arent owning up to taking care of it. That warrants a lawyer bring called instead of an insurance agent, IMO.

It sounds like the problem is you offered them a way out by giving you a discount on a new truck. Say thanks, but no thanks. Now fix the damage you caused. If you really want to drive that point home, tell them your auto body shop will be sending them a bill.

True. To each their own, but I'd rather have my insurance deal with it if possible.

First thing I did when the dealer forgot to put lugs on my rear wheel and my @ss dropped hard 50 feet away from their dock door was call the police and file a report. As soon as they seen me do that they changed their tune. They did all the work and repaired everything to brand new quick. Because of that I gave them my word I wouldn't name them out on the web.
