Frame rust !

Hi !

First post on this forum ! I know there is been a lot of discussion about rusted frames on the 2nd gen. I always tought I owned a very reliable truck and that the rust problem was only for the 1st gen.... until I find out about this frame rust issue...maybe bit to late . I always took my truck for a RustCheck application every year for the past 7 years I owned the truck. I'm the second owner and I never received any letter of information from Toyota about a recall or settlement concerning the frame rust .

2 questions for you :


-Usually , where is the most affected area on the frame ?

-I know there is a couple of past settlement about that (U.S , Canada ...even in Quebec !) but is it to late to take action with my local dealership ?

2nd gen extended frame warranty is 12 years from 1st day in service. Limited to listed rust prone States.

 

Where do you live and what year is your truck?

 

My frame is very bad for a 2010 rusting away in the salt belt of Canada .
Spend about 300 bucks on fluid film every year
Took it in to the dealership and they said it was fine ????

Where is the rust mostly located on your frames ?

 

for me its pretty much everywhere hahah.....

 

On my 2010 , the rust is everywhere but more concentrated on all the frame welds behind the cab .
I get under there with a grinder and wire wheel and clean all the welds , then re-paint with corrosion paint and top off with fluid film after the paint dries out .
Like I said , dealer said it was fine . I disagree

 

Gearcruncher, check out Woolwax! I like it a lot better than Fluid Film and you can get it black tinted. You posted a lot of links to OEM manuals on other threads but they are all dead links. Do you have any updated links? Sorry for the off-topic

 

Welcome to TW! Sorry to hear about the rust issues. What is "RustCheck"? I hope it isn't a rubberized undercoating service.

 

Over the years here at Tacoma World , a lot of old links went dead .
I Need to spend some time uploading new manuals .
Just need to figure out where to upload them so we can all get to them with ease .
On my other computer , I probably have every FSM for every Toyota but my power supply for the PC is dead . Just need to install a new power supply and will be good to go

 

Rust check is a oil spray company ... helps to keep the rust at bay

Lol I guess I misread OP's post and I'm assuming he has frame rust since he's worried about it.

 

Yes its and oil spray brand. Hope it helped prevented the rust go deeper :/
I'm taking my truck to the garage on monday to have a better look of whats under !
Hope its just surface rust. The oil film formed a crust on the frame over the years .

 

Check the inside of the boxed section of the frame, by the front cab mounts. Do the A/C drain mod while you’re under there. The water can get into the frame and rust it from the inside out
