Hi guys I just changed the oil in my truck, but the oil that came out was red and now my dipstick is reading high. After I started the truck it didn't want to move either, what the hell happened?!?!

Sorry, but pretty obvious you drained xmission oil instead of engine oil. Read on, it appears to happen frequently.

I hope I don't fall victim to this common mistake when I go to change the oil in my new-to-me 2nd gen.

Well, sounds like you drained the transmission (red), then added oil to your crank-case. Tranny empty= no-go.
    Friday bay-beeeee......!!

Sorry to say this, but to this day I don't see how this happens. When I had a VW TDI and on that forum, it was a common occurrence. You look at the top of the engine and you follow an imaginary line straight down to the oil pan. If the imaginary line seems to victor, angle off to one side or end you're about to pull the wrong plug. Always better to check once, twice or three times than to pull the wrong plug.

You may have changed the oil at the wrong time of the month.
