I want a truck that Toyota never made… white access cab automatic Tacoma X-Runner. I have always liked lighter color vehicles (whites and silvers). I would like an automatic because of my newer job and I have to drive about 75 miles a weekday in heavy Dallas traffic. I want the access cab for the extra room but not needed for people hauling. The X-Runner because it has the larger engine (V6 with more power), the lower suspension, and ground effects. I have lots of reason why I like a lowered (not slammed) sports truck and never go off-roading. I need the truck to haul small things on the weekend to work around the house. So… I am looking at feedback at how to build/ modify/ create this truck. I have been researching it for most of this year but wanted to raise this question to the forum.

    Dingo

OR put a v6 in a 5 lug and lower it which would be sweet)

Or find high mile x and swap in an auto and paint it white

Or better yet, just throw a turbo/supercharger on a 5 lug!

I have already lowered my 2014 TRD Sport 2wd with the Tundra Racing kit for Tacoma’s. I believe it lowered the front 2 inches and the rear 3.5 inches and have been rolling that for 6 months or so. It is easier on my back to get in the truck but it would be nice another 4 inches like the factory X-Runner.

I have been looking into getting an X-Runner and doing a manual to automatic swap and living with a different color but I can’t find any good research on someone doing it. I talked to a Toyota Master Tech and he told me that it would be much easier to do and X-Runner rolling chassis swap then to do a manual to automatic swap but the chassis swap would cost more

I thought about the option of buying a white access cab 4 cylinder and doing the super charger but to my understand it would be about 149hp or so factory and adding the supercharger only gets me to like 200hp at a cost of around $8K or so installed(all rough numbers) ... whereas the factory V6 truck already have 236hp

So doing and engine swap on a 5lug access cab to a 1UZ (about 259hp) or a 2UZ ( about 230hp) or the factory v6 1GR-FE ( about 236hp). What are ballpark prices on that installed?

I pulled the trigger yesterday and bought a wrecked 2006 X-Runner to pull out the chassis and do a chassis swap with my 2014 TRD Sport. The frame looks like it is in great shape (as far as I can tell) but I am going to pay to have it checked on a frame rack before doing this swap. I can't find any rust on the underside chassis (it probably has never seen snow) being a Texas truck. This will help me get the stance that I am wanting and that truck Toyota never built. So in the future, I will have a complete Pre-Runner V6 2wd chassis to sell off and all the other parts to a 06 X-Runner to sell off (engine runs with 154K on the clock). Thank you for the feedback it helped me to make up my mind to go this direction.

That's a lot of work but if you can do it great . I got the TR drop kit and added the xrunner body kit (modded for 4dr ) and added viking double adjustable coilover's . Got double adjustable shocks for rear coming in soon . Rides good . For me low enough . If you want it lower, than chassis swap is the way to go. Just and idea of drop prerunner with xrunner body kit how it looks .

That looks nice. I really like all the work you have done to the truck. I really liked the thread about making/customizing the center ground effects (awesome work). I do want mine lower. I think it may have been your thread that I read and followed and that is why I bought the lowering kit for Pre-runners and put the 20 inch X-Runner rims on my truck. I thought it would make me happy and I could avoid going through this long and expensive process but it just made me want to lower it more. I don't want it slammed just tastefully lowered (that is different for everyone) but for me that would be the stock X-Runner height with the 1.5 drop in the front and 2.0 drop in the rear with 19 inch rims with 275/40/19 tires... for some reason, I just like the look for the stance and the ratio of tire and rim in the wheel well plus it is much easier to get in the truck, handles better, easier to load stuff in the bed, easier to clean (without a step ladder). I don't want it so low that I run into problems with daily driving because I do put a bit of miles on my daily truck.

Got the donor truck home for the rolling chassis swap.. so I can lower this Pre-Runner. Guess it will be called a "Pre-X". Still have a long slow up hill battle to get this project done.

This picture shows tracing of the pre-runner frame side by side with the tracing of the x-runner frame (only the cab areas). I spent about 7 hours one day under the pre-runner doing blum string drops and putting dots on thick cad paper, then connecting the dots. Then I spent about 7 hours the next day doing the same thing the x-runner. Once finished, then I cut out the drawings. Placing the drawings on top of each other. I can see that the 4 main cab body bolts line up and the frames are pretty similar but not exact. I was not able to map the 2 front radiator support body bolts because a crossmember was in the way but I believe they are in the same place on both trucks.

The drawing on the left is of the 2006 X-Runner and the drawing on the right is of the 2014 TRD Sport Pre-Runner. The blue slash
areas are of the places that are different from one truck to the other. You can also see that the front cab body mounts are in the same location and the bolts line up but the pre-runner's mount arm is a little bit wider and longer.

Now that I feel comfortable that the frames will probably work for this swap. I am sending the X-Runner off to the frame shop to be fixed. There is minor damage done to the passenger side front frame rail under the radiator support (a small bend). The frame shop said it can be easily fixed. I know when I drive the truck... it drives straight and feels fine. The frame shop guy said he thinks the damage is only in that small area but is going to check it out when on the frame table for me.
