Just bought my truck back in August and looking to do the Fluid film as well.

I got a quote for $180 from a local shop; which is pretty reasonable. But I can buy a gallon of spray for $50 and a sprayer for $30 and go to town and still have enough to do another vehicle.

I'm very picky about any kind of work I pay for and I will most likely find something wrong with whatever they do so its safer for me to just do it myself and save myself the aggravation. Plus its a good excuse to use my new 60 gallon compressor.

it is an ongoing maintenance process, there is no one and done forever rust inhibitor. once in the fall before the first snow, salt event, and you are good to go.

doing it yourself may take time and be a pain but, YOU KNOW IT IS DONE RIGHT, DONE WELL, AND DONE WITH THE CARE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS IMPORTANT. not just a minimum wage flunky trying to get done asap, to check their phone, to relieve their FOMO.

labor of love, to protect your investment. Ski

I had a old co-worker, when he was younger he would save all the oil from his trucks oil changes each year. Then before winter he would spray the whole truck (underside and top side) with used motor oil. Then in the spring he would wash it all off. He said he never had rust, but his truck looked like shit for most of the year.

His was defiantly not done right, but it worked.

Bar and chain oil is common one for some people.

These days you'd be fined for environmental issues with washing used motor oil on the ground.

A home brew rust prevention trick. Also doubles as an excellent rust penetrate on corroded nuts and bolts.

1 Part ATF (automatic transmission fluid)
    1 Part Lacquer Thinner

Actually a mix of atf, and acetone works great for stuck studs and rusted nuts/bolts.
