Sounds pretty sporty! And insurance fraudy.

Reminds me of a time back in college when a friend of mine insisted his mustang was "stolen" and wrecked in the middle of the night when we were all hammered.

Hitting a curb at 60 mph would do a lot of damage even if just a wheel hit. I'd imagine that the suspension would be damaged to the point that the truck wasn't driveable.

My nephew hit a curb at less than half that speed with his 1990 Carolla and it was totaled. I know that a Carolla is unibody and the Tacoma is frame on body, but dynamic would be the same. As I recall the suspension pushed the unibody back to the point that it wasn't worth the cost of repair. It wasn't a new car, but to look at it there wasn't that much damage. Still, the "frame" was twisted enough that even a frame machine wouldn't get it right.

All of which is to say that I'm not at all convinced we're getting the straight story here.

Agreed. If I was a betting man I would say the OP did something really naïve and stupid, like being a bit too tipsy or drunk behind the wheel. Tried to pull up in front of his house and just drove into the curb. Something embarrassing enough or downright stupid enough to know he would get flamed to hell online if he told the truth, so he made up a 60 mph thug/bandito story.

What I don’t get is that he’ll make up this huge fancy Bandito story but why not just lie to the insurance to get it fixed? I was driving down the highway and a box fell out of the truck in front of me and I swerved to miss it and I hit the curb and now my truck feels funny. Yes it was a rolling box also it was dark so I didn’t see the truck’s license plate.

Although the story does seem far fetched and the damage doesn’t seem to fit the speed it’s not entirely unbelievable. Maybe he was going 60 jammed on the brakes skidded into the curb and by the time he actually hit it was going more like 25 mph. Or maybe he was going 65 and glanced off the curb at a mostly parallel angle. Also, the idea that bandito’s would chase you down in Mexico is not a stretch at all.

I've never been to Mexico and I don't expect that I ever will. I can't see why I would ever go there. My son has gone a few times to Mexico City on business but they always have armed security when they're there.

Your loss man, México is great! Pretty beaches, good waves, great food & drink, it’s inexpensive and the people are really friendly for the most part. Don’t think I’d drive my own vehicle down there however and probably would avoid the border towns.

Had no issues driving my own vehicle there. Border towns I'd definitely avoid... Like many border towns all across the world including some here in the US.

Other than that, you're spot on. Though for some it is fashionable to demonize and lie about Mexico at any opportunity.

I'm not reading this whole thread, was anyone in a gun fight while handcuffed to a steering wheel?

Mexico, so great you won't even bring your own vehicle there and would stay away from a major area of the country. Sounds AWESOME! I'm sold.

I also wouldn’t roll through the hood in the states at midnight or run around with meth heads in Arkansas mid day. What’s your point nerd?

I'm leaning to just hitting the curb @ a Taco Bell drive thru. You know how stories build...

Plot twist, OP is one of the 4 thugs and they did manage to steal the truck.
