I have a question. A few years ago I installed a DTRL switchback light kit from a well known vendor here in TW. When I installed it I clipped some wires under the dash to install a relay. From this relay an extra wire was added that leads to each of the switchback LED bulbs to allow them to function properly. These bulbs are white when the truck is on and turn amber for the turn signals. Question is, since I made some modifications to the turn signal wiring, will this affect how the Alpharex headlights function assuming they are connected to the fuse box as per Alpharexx's instructions?

I ask you because of your quote, "Electricity is really just organized lightning.":)

Fascinating on how the same OP creates multiple threads promoting these illegitimate lights and then deletes posts/threads whenever challenged, not only deleting content in this thread but deleting entire other threads as well.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Funny how the OP doesn't have the ability to delete threads or content (with the exception of his own post and excluding threads).

If content was deleted, it was liking by the staff due to reports about members causing unnecessary issues.

Hey! I about to pull the trigger on these but I’m struggling to get my DRL question answered so I know if I have to order extra DRL harnesses or not. Instead of having my turn signals be on 24/7 the only lights that I have similar to a DRL on on the sides of my headlights. I tried looking at older posting but none really answered the question.

If your inner light is not illuminated when the headlights are off you do not have the DRL, double check your headlight stalk for a DRL setting. The outer light is a parking light and not a DRL.

Do see my previous comments in this thread, the headlights are not an actual legitimate headlight as you may be led to believe. You'll end up with a very poor performing short range flood light instead of an actual proper headlight pattern, which certainly seems like a significant waste of money for the high price of these lights.

I might just have to wait and see when some more reviews come out. Thanks for answering my question! I got burnt out digging around trying to find it!

See this post. Unfortunately many reviews are severely flawed by people not understanding what to look for. Automotive lighting is a very funny subject where the traits people favor (foreground light) are the very opposite of what makes for a good headlight (distance light). Unfortunately this causes the 'seat of the pants' reviews to draw conclusions in the very wrong direction due to natural human bias to the foreground light. So unless that review is coming from a lighting expert, the review may be flawed. Especially if coming from an 'off road shop' or similar entity that is not highly skilled in automotive lighting.

Yeah I understand where you are coming from there! And I’m sure it will take a while to get a no BS straight forward review on them.

A while back before their product launch I asked to borrow a set of the AlphaRex to include in the 3rd Gen thread during a time they were openly seeking free beta testers and looking for feedback, I even offered a full deposit on the lights (which was not required). While most manufactures are happy to lend their products to review, they outright refused. They were apparently very much not interested in having their product scientifically compared to Morimoto, which is ironic being that OEM LED is better than Morimoto. So I really doubt you are going to get any sort of no BS review in comparing the lights from someone that actually knows what they are talking about. I'm open to adding them to the 3rd Gen thread, but I cannot in good conscious ask anyone to spend their hard earned money on such an apparent subpar product, and I am certainly not throwing away my own money on their products.

The unfortunate part of headlights on 2nd gens are the LEDs haven’t been a real option unless your paying for a retrofit. I have HID’s right now in projector lenses but I’ve had problem after problem with mine. I guess it really comes down to what I’m wanting aesthetics or function.

Any new info on the 12-15 model? Getting itchy to do some light mods and the Morimoto headlights are butt ugly and not worth waiting for.

I just installed the Novas on my 2011 2nd Gen with DRL. I’m having an issue with two left over wires and its hyper flashing. There is not a connection for them and I can’t stand the hyperflash. I’ve tried multiple times to get ahold of Alpharex via phone, text, and email with no response whatsoever. These also did not come with any directions. It’s pretty expensive piece to be having problems like this IMO.

    sorry for the crappy pics

Did you buy them with the resistors? I would contact Nelson Mann on Facebook or messenger and tell him about it. I didn’t have day light so had to purchase the resistors for like $30

that’s probably what it is, I selected that I have DRL and that was the only selectable part. So I assumed that they would have sent me the correct version.

I agree there for the price you pay the directions or instal guide would be nice. I had to get all my info on how to probably install them and wire them off a YouTube video where someone installed the pros. Without that video and my truck not having DRL I wouldn’t have been able to figure it out. If your truck has DRL you may not have to worry about those plugs. I think I used one and tapped the other up to keep water and dirt out.

did you have these unused on both sides or just the passenger side. My 05 did not have DRL so it came with the extra harness which was quite easy to install. Anyways my driver side used that double yellow but the passenger side did not. I have the feeling they use the same harness for both sides so they don’t have to stock 2 types in warehouse. Hope that helps.

I absolutely love mine. They are super bright, well designed, and I love having daytime running lights on my 05 that didn’t have them. They are pretty easy to install as well. There is a very well done walk though for the install. I’ll do another post with that link. I chose to turn off the 3 little bars because I personally thought just the outline looked better. The s bars are there so you will still have a DRL when the blinker is on. This is just a personal chose and super easy to switch on and off.

this video is a great walk though on install. After watching this anyone will be able to install. Also, it shows how to disconnect the small block of the running lights I mentioned above.

Here is a side effect I discovered. In order to make the DRL adapter (for those of us who did not have them) truly an easy plug-n-play set up they use the fuse for the fuel system. Evidently this is the only “ignition fuse” in the engine compartment. I mention this because tacoma fuel system opens a vent in the tank to release built up vapors in the system about 5 hours after last use. This means the DRL will kick on for a minute or so while the fuel systems cycles through its venting process. This can be fixed if you are a little more mechanically savvy by running it through the firewall and connecting it up under the dash. For me not a big deal. I’ll fix it when I hook up my rock lights and surround lights at a later date.

    hope all this info helps.

anyone have any problems with the lights fogging up after a couple years?

I'm extremely skeptical of any of these aftermarket light assemblies. They are not held to the same standards as OEM. This means they don't take the time to develop a robust product that will last for many years.
